Hobee and Bobit have gone on many adventures together. But after a particularly grueling quest, they are stranded when their ship sails off without them! So when Hobee decides to undertake the mission of exploring the great wide ocean in search of other half-duck-half-mice, he enlists the help of the Head Tool Teeker, D.J., to build him some special equipment. Setting off in their brand new cycle-sub, Hobee and Bobit plunge into the sea, and into a whirlwind adventure. They encounter the Skoodaddles and helping them in getting rid of their bullies. In return the Skoodaddles give Hobee a map of the Northern Pacific Ocean floor and the secrets to the hidden Gates of Ambiguous that lead to unknown Oceans. In their explorations they find a small island called the Island of Pretend. The King there is a bully and makes others do things they don't want to do. In their search of the small island they find out how to navigate by using the stars and find more clues left by the Marching Rodent Explorers. This is only the beginning for Hobee, Bobit, and their cycle-sub. Human Factors of Stereoscopic Displays provides an overview of all vision-relevant topics and issues that inform stereo display design from a user-centric or human factor, perspective. Although both the basic vision science literature and the applied literature will be reviewed, the strength and originality of this book comes from the emphasis on the basic science literature on human stereo vision and its implications for stereo display design. The reader will learn how to design stereo displays from a human vision/human factors perspective. Over the past several years, there has been a growing interest in the development of high-quality displays that present binocular parallax information to the human visual system for inducing the perception of three-dimensional depth. The methods for presenting binocular parallax to an observer vary widely and include three broad categories of display: stereoscopic, holographic and volumetric displays. Because the technology for stereoscopic displays is more developed and more widely used, than those based on holography or volumetric methods, the proposed book addresses those human factors issues involved in the viewing of stereoscopic displays. Despite the diverse methods for creating stereoscopic displays, which includes stereo spatial multiplexing as well as temporal multiplexing (i.e., field sequential) techniques, there remain common human factor issues that arise when viewing such displays. Human Factors of Stereoscopic Displays will provide a detailed review of these important issues so that they can be considered when designing and using 3D displays. In doing so, the following topics will be covered: interocular cross talk; interocular differences in luminance and contrast; accommodation-vergence mismatch; stereoanomaly; spatio-temporal frequency effects; distance scaling of disparity and high-level cue conflict. body>

Originally published in 1844, Vestiges sparked one of the great intellectual controversies of the century. Integrating research in anthropology, geology, astronony, biology, economics, and chemistry, it was the first attempt to connect the natural sciences into a history of creation. The author, whose identity was not revealed until 1884, was Robert Chambers (1802-71), a leading Scottish writer and publisher. Vestiges reached a huge popular audience in Europe and America and was widely read by the social and intellectual elite. It fostered debate about natural law, setting the stage for the controversy over Darwin's Origin. In response to criticism, Chambers published Explanations: A Sequel, which offered a reasoned defense of his ideas about progressive development, castigating what he saw as the narrowness of specialist science.
