Like many conservative Christian faiths, Mormonism instills a strong sense of loyalty and deep religious feelings in its members. The church also teaches that homosexuality is abnormal and sinful. Thus, gay Mormons must learn to manage conflicting religious and sexual identities. This sociological study of the lives and struggles of gay members of the Mormon church is based on interviews with a large sample of gay Mormons and discussions with Mormon church leaders. The plight of gay Mormons is examined as part of a larger struggle over the place of homosexuality in American Christianity.

It's a well-known fact that Christianity is slowly dying in the West. While there are many factors contributing to this decline, the most significant one is biblical belief. More and more people are finding the beliefs outlined in the Bible unbelievable. As a result, the time has come to have a conversation on what a post-biblical Christian faith might look like. This book begins that conversation.
Many Christian counselors and pastors want to bring Christ's Gospel and forgiveness into their soul care, but don't know how. Luther's very Christ-centered theology, based in his desire for care of souls, can provide us with that foundation. Various techniques flowing from that foundation are shared. "Martin Luther formulated his proclamation of the message of Scripture for his contemporaries between the poles of God's voice in the pages of the Bible and the needs and afflictions of his hearers and readers. Marrs brings twenty-first century readers into that exchange and demonstrates how Luther's insights into the gospel of Jesus Christ help bring healing and comfort to those struggling with guilt, shame, fear, loneliness, and other spiritual afflictions in our day. This volume provides those who are engaged in conversation with the troubled and distressed rich resources for fostering peace and joy in the midst of such trouble and distress." Robert Kolb, PhD, professor of systematic theology emeritus, Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis USA "If all good theology is pastoral in its orientation, then this groundbreaking, practical, biblical study is well worth careful consideration by any pastor or Christian counsellor. In it Marrs engages in a conversation with the teaching of Luther as a Christ-centered pastoral theologian and the practical insights of psychologists on the personal care of their clients, with a special emphasis on Luther's insistence on the need to distinguish between law and gospel in the proper application of God's gracious word with the delivery of soul care to God's people." John W. Kleinig, PhD Professor Emeritus, Australian Lutheran College University of Divinity, Adelaide, South Australia
Christianity....it's not what you think!.... Are You a Christian? Do you consider yourself to be a Christian? What makes you a Christian? How do you know you are a Christian? What made you decide to become one? What does it mean in your daily life? Could it be that maybe some of the people who call themselves Christian, really aren't? What IS a Christian? Most people in this country say they are Christian, but what does that mean? What makes you a Christian? Is it having a membership in a church? Does attendance at a Sunday morning worship service make you a Christian? Would sitting in a garage for an hour every week make you a car? These questions arise because when we talk about Christianity, we all mean something different. We assume we mean the same thing, but we each have a very different picture of what a Christian is. This ends up causing people to spend a lot of time and energy arguing with each other and trying to get others to believe and behave as you do. And that is hardly what being a Christian should be. Many people, both Christian and non-Christian, make a variety of assumptions about Christians. What is a 3D Christian? So lets\' take a look at what it means to be a 3D Christian. The 3 D's: 1. Discovery "" defining what a Christian is. 2. Decision "" committing to be a Christian. 3. Discipline "" traveling the path of a Christian. How to use this book. We will explore the 3 Dimensions of Christianity: Discovery, Decision and Discipline. We will talk about what these mean, the "theory" behind them. Then you will have the opportunity to explore some practical ways you can incorporate these dimension into your daily life. So we begin our journey together; a journey of change and growth, from one dimensional to three dimensional, as we follow our vision to be "3D Christians.
This book offers a radically different perspective from that of many best-selling authors concerning how the Christian should measure and evaluate travel along God's path of righteousness. It will endeavor to persuade the reader that by feeding regularly on the Gospel in the Preached Word and The Supper, God promises to have His way with the Christian and He alone will accomplish all that is needed for life in Him to be complete. He is not waiting or requiring you to do anything first (during or after) to provide you with every blessing of the Gospel.

Having run into trouble in Beantown, for the past year he’s been eking out a living as a blackjack dealer at the posh Oasis Hotel & Casino. Christian Valentine, the star attraction of The Sultan’s Tent, tells Jake that he’s being blackmailed; because of his star status, he doesn’t want the police involved. He knows Jake’s history, and he wants his private help. Jake discovers an army of Valentine-haters out there. But when he goes to confront Valentine himself, the performer isn’t talking. He’s facedown in a Jacuzzi with an arrow stuck in his back. The media have a field day with the murder, and Jake quietly keeps up his investigation. Among the suspects are Valentine’s wife (who would benefit from the insurance policy), his stage manager, the showroom maitre d’, Big Julius Contini (the owner of the Oasis), and finally Johnny Ventura — the young singer who will replace Christian Valentine after years of waiting in the wings. Raw Deal is the first book in the Jake Morgan mystery series. Rick Gadziola writes with a light touch, spicing the crime quest with humour.
