Johnny grew up in a ragtag family full of what other folk called “characters.” His dad and mother, who lived on small change and laughs, had Johnny late in life. But when Johnny was seventeen, things began to look up. He and his new friend, Jesse Davidson, teamed up with Eddie Freeman, a fast-talking kid who would later became manager for the singing duo, Jesse and Johnny. Together, the three boys began to make a little money, learning the entertainment business by trial and error. Eddie will do whatever it takes to make his friends (and clients) into superstars. Johnny loses his heart to a faithful hometown girl named Joyce, and all is bliss—that is, until Ruby Van-Heusen, an older woman with more than enough money (but not enough scruples), steps in with her own agenda. When Levi, Johnny’s unpredictable older brother, follows him to Hollywood with big dreams of his own, Johnny’s world spins out of control even more. In an effort to regain a bit of balance, Johnny and his partners form a record company which in turn brings on some unwelcome surprises, including the Mob. From Indiana to New York and then Hollywood, Johnny’s life is never short on adventure, laughs, heartbreak—or the struggle it takes to never give up. Richard Donahue has spent his adult life in the music industry. As a teenager he ventured off to New York and signed a recording contract with RCA Records. Later he joined forces with Hollywood Sound Studios in Los Angeles., working in songwriting, publishing and production. He co-wrote “It’s the lover not the love” for pop star Tiffany. He currently lives in Nashville Tennessee.

Yet reliable methods of identifying migration are not always accessible. In Athapaskan Migrations, authors R. G. Matson and Martin P. R. Magne use a variety of methods to identify and describe the arrival of the Athapaskan-speaking Chilcotin Indians in west central British Columbia. By contrasting two similar geographic areasÑusing the parallel direct historical approachÑthe authors define this aspect of Athapaskan culture. They present a sophisticated model of Northern Athapaskan migrations based on extensive archaeological, ethnographic, and dendrochronological research. A synthesis of 25 years of work, Athapaskan Migrations includes detailed accounts of field research in which the authors emphasize ethnic group identification, settlement patterns, lithic analysis, dendrochronology, and radiocarbon dating. Their theoretical approach will provide a blueprint for others wishing to establish the ethnic identity of archaeological materials. Chapter topics include basic methodology and project history; settlement patterns and investigation of both the Plateau Pithouse and British Columbia Athapaskan Traditions; regional surveys and settlement patterns; excavated Plateau Pithouse Tradition and Athapaskan sites and their dating; ethnic identification of recovered material; the Chilcotin migration in the context of the greater Pacific Athapaskan, Navajo, and Apache migrations; and summaries and results of the excavations. The text is abundantly illustrated with more than 70 figures and includes access to convenient online appendixes. This substantial work will be of special importance to archaeologists, anthropologists, linguists, and scholars in Athapaskan studies and Canadian First Nation studies.
