This volume contains abstracts of most of the significant scientific literature dealing with prostaglandins published between 1906~when certain biologically active tissue extracts first stimulated the speculation of researchers~and 1970~when the use of prostaglandins for experimental control of fertility and induction of labor had been reported from six countries. Of the more than 4000 articles now identified which were published between 1906 and 1972, approximately half had appeared in print by the end of 1970. A second volume will cover the material printed in 1971 and 1972 with special emphasis on the role of prostaglandins in reproductive physiology. The reasons for publishing this considerable compilation of data are twofold. On the one hand, prosta· glandins, a family of fatty acid derivatives first identified in human semen, have been shown to have great and varied effects on all aspects of human physiology due to activity at the cellular level as mediators in the formation of cyclic AMP. The study of prostaglandins is considered today one of the most promising fields in the biological sciences. Secondly, as is now recognized, prostaglandins play an important role in reproduction, influencing both male and female fertility. It is hoped that this volume will make the results of early prostaglandin research available to investigators throughout the world, including especially those in developing coun· tries who may not have easy access to such material.

Molly is urged by Roland to send for her two young daughters, which seems an odd request, but it is all part of a story line that Roland is mysteriously creating for these real life characters. What is not planned is Mike's lightning romance with local bartender, Carrie Stirling. As the interview begins to unspool, Roland's health is deteriorating rapidly. He tells his tale with flashbacks to his previous marriage and the havoc he wrought upon his long-gone wife, Karin and her sister, Meg Bollander, who still lives in the farm house above Roland's on The Ledge. Richard Curtis Hauschild is a novelist and screenwriter currently living in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, grew up in Libertyville, Illinois, was educated in Lincoln, Nebraska (Nebraska Wesleyan University), and then later was thoroughly corrupted in Hollywood, California. Richard began his writing career as lyric writer for the late-great songwriter/guitarist Jim Krueger, having written words to numerous Krueger songs including the title track of Krueger's Sweet Salvation album. He also has had song credits with Dave Mason, DFK, and The Happy Schnapps Combo. After 19 years in L.A. film production he moved to Wisconsin where he found the solitude and inspiration to write five novels and numerous screenplays. The Ledge is Richard's first novel set in the Fond du Lac area and its sequel, Jersey Flats is nearing completion.

The transition from the Neolithic period to the Copper Age in the northern Balkans and the Carpathian Basin was marked by significant changes in material culture, settlement layout and organization, and mortuary practices that indicate fundamental social transformations in the middle of the fifth millennium BC. Prior research into the Late Neolithic of the region focused almost exclusively on fortified 'tell' settlements. The Early Copper Age, by contrast, was known primarily from cemeteries such as the type site of Tiszapolgar-Basatanya. This edited book describes the multi-disciplinary research conducted by the Koros Regional Archaeological Project in southeastern Hungary from 2000-2007. Centered around two Early Copper Age Tiszapolgar culture villages in the Koros Region of the Great Hungarian Plain, Veszto-Bikeri and Korosladany-Bikeri, our research incorporated excavation, surface collection, geophysical survey and soil chemistry to investigate settlement layout and organization. Our results yielded the first extensive, systematically collected datasets from Early Copper Age settlements on the Great Hungarian Plain. The two adjacent villages at Bikeri, located only 70 m apart, were similar in size, and both were protected with fortifications. Relative and absolute dates demonstrate that they were occupied sequentially during the Early Copper Age, from ca. 4600-4200 cal B.C. The excavated assemblages from the sites are strikingly similar, suggesting that both were occupied by the same community. This process of settlement relocation after only a few generations breaks from the longer-lasting settlement pattern that are typical of the Late Neolithic, but other aspects of the villages continue traditions that were established during the preceding period, including the construction of enclosure systems and longhouses.
