As I grew up hearing stories of my grandfather and his adventures in life, I wrote a novel and called it West by Bullwhip. It was historical fiction but many of the life stories about my grandfather, James Alburn Knight, later picking up the name Jack, and his family were true happenings. Bullwhip Justice has many of the same characters but is total fiction. My publisher for the first book said I had failed to put romance in the book and needed to write about a love interest for my main character. So we now have Bullwhip Justice and a love affair that carries our main character on highs and lows of several magnitudes. It fulfills the meaning behind the title. Jack continues his skillful use of the bullwhip and finds the use helpful in reducing the death rate in the growing west saving the final justice as the perfect place to display the diversity of the bullwhip.

It is gradually being acknowledged that the Arabic story-collection Thousand and One Nights has had a major influence on European and world literature. This study analyses the influence of Thousand and One Nights, as an intertextual model, on 20th-century prose from all over the world. Works of approximately forty authors are examined: those who were crucial to the development of the main currents in 20th-century fiction, such as modernism, magical realism and post-modernism. The book contains six thematic sections divided into chapters discussing two or three authors/works, each from a narratological perspective and supplemented by references to the cultural and literary context. It is shown how Thousand and One Nights became deeply rooted in modern world literature especially in phases of renewal and experiment.

Over the last two decades, economic, political, and social life in Latin America has been transformed by the region’s accelerated integration into the global economy. Although this transformation has tended to exacerbate various inequities, new forms of popular expression and action challenging the contemporary structures of capital and power have also developed. This volume is a comprehensive, genuinely comparative text on contemporary Latin America. In it, an international group of contributors offer multidimensional analyses of the historical context, contemporary character, and future direction of rural transformation, urbanization, economic restructuring, and the transition to political democracy. Sandor Halebsky is professor of sociology at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He coedited Cuba in Transition: Crisis and Transformation (Westview, 1992). Richard L. Harris is chair of the faculty at Golden Gate University in Monterey, California. He is one of the coordinating editors of the journal Latin American Perspectives and the author of Marxism, Socialism, and Democracy in Latin America (Westview, 1992).

Slender Fantasies is a fast paced satire of the legal profession, that will keep you turning pages until the final plot-twisting denouement, when Ralph, facing insurmountable odds, stands alone in a David and Goliath courtroom confrontation to prove that playing with dolls—at least the Bobbie Doll—-really can be dangerous to a young girl's health.
