To compete in this dynamic environment, D'Aveni argues that a company must fundamentally shift its strategic focus. Simonides is tantalising and enigmatic, known both from fragments and from an extensive tradition of anecdotes. This monograph, the first in English for a generation, employs a two-part diachronic approach: Richard Rawles first reads Simonidean fragments with attention to their intertextual relationship with earlier works and traditions, and then explores Simonides through his ancient reception. In the first part, interactions between Simonides' own poems and earlier traditions, both epic and lyric, are studied in his melic fragments and then in his elegies. The second part focuses on an important strand in Simonides' ancient reception, concerning his supposed meanness and interest in remuneration. This is examined in Pindar's Isthmian 2, and then in Simonides' reception up to the Hellenistic period. The book concludes with a full re-interpretation of Theocritus 16, a poem which engages both with Simonides' poems and with traditions about his life.

Behavioral Treatment of Disease: A NATO Symposium on Behavioral Medicine was held on June 30th through July 3rd, 1981 at Porto Carras, Neo Marmaras, Greece. It was a multi disciplinary meeting which provided an opportunity for North American and European scientists from ten different NATO member countries to share the emerging principles and technology of behavioral treatment of disease. In addition, it served as a forum whereby continued high level research in the area was stimulated. Financial support for the symposium was initially provided by the Scientific Affairs Division or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as part of their continuing seri.es of scientific symposia. Funds made available by a grant from the United States Office of Naval Reseach permitted widespread inter national participation in the symposium. We would like to thank each of these organizations for their support in making the symposium possible. In particular, we would like to thank Dr. B. A. Bayraktar of the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO and Dr. Donald Woodward of the U.S. Office of Naval Research. The third edition of this monograph continues to have the goal of providing an overview of current thought about the spinal cord mechanisms that are responsible for sensory processing. We hope that the book is of value to both basic and clinical neuroscientists. Several changes have been made in the presentation, as well as additions because of the research advances that have been made during the past decade. Chapters 3 and 4 in the previous edition have been subdivided, and now the morphology of primary afferent neu rons of the dorsal root ganglia is described in Chapter 3 and the chemical neuroanatomy of these neurons in Chapter 4. The description of the dorsal horn in the previous Chapter 4 is now included in Chapter 5, and the chemical neuroanatomy of the dorsal horn in Chapter 6. Furthermore, discussions of the descending control systems have now been consolidated at the end of Chapter 12. The authors would like to express their appreciation for the help provided by several individuals.
