Has it ever worked, and can we do something better? 4) The recent federal budget and debt ceiling crisis are merely the rumblings of far worse to come. What is the solution? Common Sense Solutions to Real Problems takes these four key social problems and searches for solutions from a unique perspective. Each problem is analyzed, and the solution is arrived at from a logical and systematic approach that is fundamental to the style of thinking of one whose life has been impacted by symbolic logic. The reasoning process that is presented is succinct and direct. The solutions are designed to assist the reader to search for their own response to these and to other current social issues.
While Symbolic Logic and the Binomial Expansion are subjects that are often mentioned in High School and College math courses, the two projects contained in this book have been carefully developed to help the student achieve a more in-depth understanding of these concepts. The projects are designed to be done independently or they can be incorporated into the curriculum of any math course from second semester algebra and beyond. Students who complete these projects will gain a stronger appreciation of what it means to think logically and they will see how two seemingly unrelated areas of study connect in ways that strengthen both. Areas of focus in these projects include: Truth Tables Compound Truth Tables Negations Conditionals Converse, Inverse, and Contrapositive Biconditionals Tautologies Symbolic logic (also known as Mathematical Logic) is foundational to many fields of study such as computer science and engineering. Those who have an understanding of symbolic logic and the binomial expansion will be better prepared for further courses of study in mathematics, science, and engineering. About the author: Dick Forringer received his Bachelors Degree from Kent State University, majoring in mathematics and he earned his Masters in Education from Fordham University. He retired after 42 years of being a teacher and administrator at Durham Academy, in Durham, North Carolina. He is a recipient of the F. Robertson Hershey Distinguished Faculty award and the Brumley Excellence in Teaching award. Dick has also had three feature articles published in Mathematics Teacher. This is his second published book.

This book is about the defining people, events and institutions in the authors life. Although he has a PhD in physics and spent his working life in the field of physics, the book has very little to do with the technical and scientific aspects of his life. He began as a farm boy and went to a one room country school and a small town high school He did not appreciate the importance of many of these influences at the time. For example, he certainly did not think that working mules on the farm was beneficial but now he can see that he learned a lot from those aggravating beasts. His education during the years of World War II left a lot to be desired but it was good enough to prepare him for the rigors of MIT degrees in physics. It is hoped that this book will help some young people in similar situations in their efforts.
Continental philosophy, as it has emerged in the twentieth century, is less a seamless fabric than a patchquilt of diverse strands. Phenomenology, hermeneutics, existentialism, structuralism, critical theory, deconstruction - these are some of the salient movements which have developed in continental Europe between 1900 and the 1990's, though their influence is by no means confined to geographic location.
