The goals of applied psychophysiology such as producing a useful effect are much different than the goals of basic research which are focused on validating a theoretical model. Different tools are required to attain those goals. Dr. Sherman is a seasoned psychophysiologist with extensive publications in basic and applied research. He has been a leader in professional societies fostering applied psychophysiology and he has refined the teachability of this material through years of teaching students in a graduate program of applied psychophysiology. It begins immediately with cardinal rules for establishing credibility when you are preparing a clinical presentation or attending to a clinical presentation. He started to think becoming a businessman. There are lot stories about sweat and tears in building a business. He led the small company to win the USIA contract and continue to win contract with Navy, Pentagon, and Education Department. In one unusual opportunity, he led the company to win the IRS contract, which was $240 million for the life of the contract. He had won all sorts of award. The most important was given by President Bush in the White House.
Phantom pain is an intriguing mystery that has captured the imagination of health care providers and the public alike. How is it possible to feel pain in a limb or some other body part that has been surgically removed? Phantom pain develops among people who have lost a limb or a breast or have had internal organs removed. It also occurs in people with totally transected spinal cords. Unfortunately, phantom pain is a medical night mare. Many of the people reporting phantom pain make dispropor tionately heavy use of the medical system because their severe pains are usually not treated successfully. Most of the stories relate to phantom limbs and date from the mid-1800s. The typical story goes like this: A man who had his leg ampu tated complained about terrible crawling, twitching feelings in his leg. His friends found out where the leg was buried, dug it up, and found maggots eating it. They burned it, and the pain stopped. Another man complained of a swollen feeling with frequent stinging or biting pains.

This book contains two review articles on mathematical physiology that deal with closely related topics but were written and can be read independently. The first article reviews the basic theory of calcium oscillations (common to almost all cell types), including spatio-temporal behaviors such as waves. The second article uses, and expands on, much of this basic theory to show how the interaction of cytosolic calcium oscillators with membrane ion channels can result in highly complex patterns of electrical spiking.
