Once by far Hollywood's largest category of popular movies, Westerns are now out of fashion with the movie-going public, but they still hold a commanding presence on DVD. Until recently, Westerns were one of the most popular DVD categories, third only to action and science fiction. Many, many titles from the 1930s and 1940s were made by small, independent companies that no longer exist. A huge number of westerns are therefore in the public domain and are now available on DVD from outlets like Alpha and Grapevine. In fact, there are currently so many titles on DVD, that guides like "World's Worst Westerns" are not a luxury or an addenda, but an absolute necessity for collectors who wish to spend their money wisely by buying titles they will enjoy! In fact, for western fans like myself, a book like "World's Worst Westerns" is not just a novelty, but an absolute necessity!

Between 1803 and 1853, some 80,000 convicts were transported to Van Diemen’s Land. Revising established models of the colonies, which tend to depict convict women as a peculiarly oppressed group, Gender, crime and empire argues that convict men and women in fact shared much in common. Placing men and women, ideas about masculinity, femininity, sexuality and the body, in comparative perspective, this book argues that historians must take fuller account of class to understand the relationships between gender and power. The book explores the ways in which ideas about fatherhood and household order initially informed the state’s model of order, and the reasons why this foundered. It considers the shifting nature of state policies towards courtship, relationships and attempts at family formation which subsequently became matters of class conflict. It goes on to explore the ways in which ideas about gender and family informed liberal and humanitarian critiques of the colonies from the 1830s and 1840s and colonial demands for abolition and self-government.

Many new ideas in project planning and cost control have been tried in the past 20 years. Some of them led to techniques taken for granted today. Others, that initially appeared logical and feasible, proved to be unworkable. Project Management supplies techniques that help with the planning and management of cost control. This book describes techniques currently used by systems engineers and project managers on major projects. It covers variations and modifications to suit different projects and management styles. The author takes a semi-procedural approach, using a minimum of words to give maximum information. He provides practical examples to illustrate each application. Experienced industrial managers know the essentials - good forward planning, budget control, and performance measurement - that maintain the viability of any project. Project Management puts these elements and functions into perspective. It gives experienced managers and young engineers alike the tools they need to see the big picture. Features

Ultimately, we can all trace our origins back to the savannas of Africa. Robin Reid's book provides an eloquent introduction into the biology of the savannas that shaped us as humans; simultaneously, she provides an insightful and comprehensive overview of current and future threats to East African savannas and the steps that need to be taken to conserve the world we first lived in. Don't go to East Africa without first reading this book; it will enhance your safari and empower your research."–Andrew P. Dobson, author of Conservation and Biodiversity "Savannas of Our Birth provides a balanced, scientific, and accessible examination of the current state of East African savannas and the relationships among the wildlife and people who live there. Reid examines how savannas came to be and what alternative futures may be possible by trying to chart a middle ground in contentious debates about conservation and local rights."–J. Terrence McCabe, author of Cattle Bring Us to Our Enemies: Turkana Ecology, History, and Raiding in a Disequilibrium System "Reid's research focusing on pastoralists has reminded me that wildlife and domestic livestock co-existed to their mutual benefit for the last 2000 years. With reopened eyes, I've even seen it for myself in the case of the Masai and the savanna wildlife I study. There is an extraordinary wealth of information in this book."–Richard D. Estes, author of The Behavior Guide to African Mammals

How has the Liturgy of the Roman rite developed and changed in history before and after the Council of Trent? What principles have determined the boundaries of legitimate liturgical reform over the centuries? What was the Liturgical Movement? Did Guéranger, Beauduin, Guardini, Parsch, Casel, Bugnini, Jungmann, Bouyer and the Movement's other leaders know and respect these principles? And what is to be said of the not insignificant liturgical reforms carried out by Saint Pius X, Popes Pius IX and Pius XII and Blessed John XXIII in the course of the twentieth century? In The Organic Development of the Liturgy, Dom Alcuin Reid examines these questions systematically, incisively and in depth, identifying both the content and context of the principle of "organic development"-a fundamental principle of liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council's Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium-making a significant contribution to the understanding of the nature of the Liturgical Movement and to the ongoing re-assessment of the reforms enacted following the Council.
Gavin Reid presents a systematic analysis of what drives investor-investee relations in venture capital markets. In the first analytical work to use a unified framework, he draws upon a modern and general approach to contracting relations, namely principal-agent analysis. This book establishes a clear theoretical framework involving risk management, information handling and the 'trading' of risk and information. Using powerful modern theory as a general and coherent frame of reference to analyse an extensive body of new evidence, the author shows how top investors manage risk and monitor investees, and examines the best relationship between investor and investee. Exploring the principles governing high-risk/high-return investment, this is a unique insight into the turbulent world of the venture capitalist.

On reading an earlier version of this biography, King remarked that it was 'an outstandingly good and at times riveting example of historical research' and commented on the author's 'unprecedented access' to archival sources, and 'unusually frank interviews' with informants."--BOOK JACKET.
