This book considers contested responsibilities between the public and private sectors over the use of online data, detailing exactly how digital human rights evolved in specific European states and gradually became a part of the European Union framework of legal protections. The author uniquely examines why and how European lawmakers linked digital data protection to fundamental human rights, something heretofore not explained in other works on general data governance and data privacy. In particular, this work examines the utilization of national and European Union institutional arrangements as a location for activism by legal and academic consultants and by first-mover states who legislated digital human rights beginning in the 1970s. By tracing the way that EU Member States and non-state actors utilized the structure of EU bodies to create the new norm of digital human rights, readers will learn about the process of expanding the scope of human rights protections within multiple dimensions of European political space. Elections are in trouble with general low levels of interest and turnout; Jeanette Morehouse Mendez and Rebekah Herrick suggest that if candidates looked more like America does, these problems would decrease. They call these elections where candidates differ in key social demographic traits descriptive elections. They predict that races that have candidates of different race and/or gender will see higher voter turnout out, because voters will be more interested in these races and will have less alienation and indifference. In addition, they predict that voters’ stereotypes/gender preferences, as well as elite behavior, can contribute to greater voter engagement. They also predict that campaigns in these elections will discuss a wider variety of issues, and the media will do likewise. They test their expectations by examining the gender mix of candidates in gubernatorial, congressional, and state legislative races. The results suggest that voters in mixed-gender and women-only elections have less alienation, less indifference, and greater interest. They also are more likely to vote. The results offer more modest evidence that campaigns and media coverage differ in these races. Thus the authors conclude that voters’ gender stereotypes and preferences have a larger effect on voters’ engagements in descriptive elections.

Shadow of His Wings is a book of twenty faith-based short and longer stories for tweens (between children and teens). The stories are built on tried and true scriptural principles and concepts. The book is fiction, but it is not false. It is like little snapshots of life. The stories all have different characters, settings, and lessons. For example, Productive Fear is a story about Mark who wants to help Tony begin to care about his schoolwork. Mark tries praying several different ways until one day Tony opens up to him about his problems. Mark decides then and there he will help Tony in any way he can. First Step is about Brian who is a bully who goes too far and injures another student. He is disturbed when he discovers that the boy is in the hospital pending surgery, and he takes his first step toward change: he listens to his mother as she tries to help him to rediscover God in his life. The story Lackluster Love is about Kristie who doesnt understand her friends lack of love for Jesus. Her mom tells her to pray about it. Kristie does, and her friend begins to change. Kristie wants to know what changed her friend, but her mother tells her not to ask but to pray about it again. After prayer, Kristie discovers Sandy and her family were not really saved. It makes all the difference once they turn to the Lord. It would take a lot of time and space to tell about all twenty stories. All of the stories are different. Some of them are centered around boys, and some are centered around girls. Both girls and boys should enjoy them.
