We feel blessed to have got divine grace to compile the major events of the divine personality of Shri Lord Chidambara Swami of Murgod,Karnataka It was the fervent desire of Late shrimant Shankara Dixit, the Poojya Peethadipati, to bring English version of biography of Chidambara Swami. His desire was explicit in his Aashirvachana given to us during his visit to Vijayapur years ago. It was Swami Diwakara Dixit, the present pontiff of Muragod Math,who encouraged us to undertake writing English summary of the available Kannada and Marathi source material,more so of being indebted to prof Dr Balaji Kulkarni, whose Kannada book gave us a logical coherence in compiling the source material for the present book. We remain indebted to all of them. Their brilliant expressions in their writings are inimitable more so in English language. We have honestly tried to summarise the salient events in English language. Since the present writing is not a translation or transliteration exactly,it is simply an attempt to summarise the source material in English. We do not claim any source material to be our primary source or as of our research work.It is an attempt to put the matter straight and easy to understand for comman readers. Since,English is not our mother tongue,we admit that many errors must have surely remained unaddressed,we beg the indulgence of the readers to concede our shortcomings and forgive us in lapses if any remained in the book.It was our devotional exercise to make a humble attempt to introduce the divine glory of lord Chidambara Swami to English readers within the narrow range of our understanding and the skill of the language. What is good in the book is not ours,but whatever is not appreciable in this writing surely it is due to our own inability. We pray indulgence of the readers to be sympathetic and guide us further to be more correct and useful for readers. We offer this small attempt at the Lotus feet of Lord Chidambara Maha Swami.

The dominance of insects in the world fauna has made them the humanity's greatest rival for the world's food resources, both directly by eating the plants cultivated for food and indirectly as vectors of pathogens attacking these plants. Agricultural scientists and especially entomologists have strived hard to develop a diversity of cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical weapons during the last more than two centuries to gain dominance over insects. However, there is evidence that insect pest problems have escalated with an increasing cropping intensity and with the use of agrochemicals inherent in modern agriculture. Consequently, Indian plant protection scientists have intensified research on the development of pest management tactics and effective pest management systems have been designed for all the important crops in the country. This book, consisting of 29 chapters, draws together the diverse literature on the subject of insect pest management in agriculture and contains contributions written by scientists having extensive experience with insect pest problems in Indian agriculture. The first half of the book is devoted to the principles and components of pest management including factors affecting pest populations, construction of life tables, coevolution of insects and plants, pest forecasting, pesticides, IGRs, botanicals, entomopathogenic nematodes and molecular approaches, etc. The different tactics for the management of major insect pests of principal agricultural crops of India, viz. rice, maize, wheat, forage crops, cotton, sugarcane, vegetables, fruits, oilseeds, pulse crops, jute, mesta and tobacco have been discussed in the second half of the book. Marathi, an Indo-Aryan language, is the official language of Maharashtra, including Mumbai. Father Thomas Stephens, the first English traveler to Goa, a pioneer linguist, wrote Christa Puran in Marathi (1616) and Arte da Lingoa Canarim in Portuguese, printed in (1640). The latter is a grammar of Konkani, a language closely related to Marathi. It is the first grammar of its kind marking a new grammatical tradition for modern Indo-Aryan languages. The present volume contains an extensive account of Marathi phonology, morphology, word formation and syntax. It succinctly describes the accentual system, special compound verb forms, unique pronominal anaphors, complex agreement due to split ergative system, and special pronominal marking. The book also contains a case study of a child’s acquisition of Marathi and an essay on Women’s Language, the two topics that are increasingly becoming relevant to the grammar.

The decade of 1990s saw the debate surrounding the contraction of public distribution system (PDS) in India where economists and social scientists of various camps (in relation to their stands vis-à-vis the International Monetary Fund and World Bank policies) expressed their viewpoints in various journals, seminars and public meetings. It must be pointed out that political ideologies played a crucial role in determining the fate of Indian agriculture. The important areas which were touched during these discourses were: what one means by food adequate, level of malnutrition, role of State and market in food allocation and distribution, impact of trade liberalization on the Indian food market (including producers, sellers and consumers) etc. To summarize such a rich and enlightening discussion in a few words would be both difficult and impossible. Konkani is a modern Indo-Aryan language and a state language of the Indian state Goa. Until recently, it was considered a dialect of Marathi, but it is now considered an independent language. Konkani has several varieties, including the Manglore variety spoken in the south of Goa, the Gawdi variety spoken by the Gawda ethnic group, and the Goan (Panaji) variety. The latter is the focus of this description, and is the variety used in schools, media and state administration. The book provides a descriptive linguistic analysis of Konkani based on spoken and written data collected by the author during extensive fieldwork. The linguistic features of Konkani phonology, morphology, word-formation and syntax are described in detail, and where significant, compared with the Manglore and Gawdi varieties. Since Konkani is undergoing standardisation, and since it has close contact with Marathi, significant similarities and differences between the two languages are also discussed. Konkani has the honour of being the subject of the oldest European grammatical work on any Indian language: Thomas Stephens’ Arte da Lingoa Canarim published in 1640. This grammar is thus the most recent addition to the long tradition of Konkani grammars.
