For over a decade there has been a National movement to redesign the United States public school system using as a pattern the European-style plan of educating only the top 15% academically & relegating the rest to trade schools or oblivion. In America, H. Ross Perot has been touted as the undisputed expert by the uninformed because of his involvement in the formulation & eventual passage of HB72 by the Texas legislature in 1984. Media hype continues to proclaim Mr. Perot's "greatness & dedication to the improvement of our educational system." What they don't tell you about is the dark side of NO PASS NO PLAY that has plagued the youth of Texas since its inception. It has nothing to do with passing courses in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. It is NOT about motivation, building self-confidence & self-esteem, better education for all children, earning scholarships for anything other than scholastic achievement, or even about democracy itself. It IS about punishment, degradation, academic education only for the intellectually elite, elimination of extra-curricular activities, especially sports, & the mocking of a democracy by a pompous, power-hungry little tyrant. Texas' "reforms" have single handedly destroyed young people's ambitions, dreams, & even their lives. Mr. Perot does not seem to care. His abuse of our children must be stopped!
