This book investigates the less-explored dimensions of how industries in different Indian subnational spaces or states have responded to the growing phenomenon of internationalization. What factors have influenced firms participating in global business? Have state (both central and provincial) policies acted as catalyst for local firms? Not only does this study delve into these issues; it also painstakingly develops a comprehensive database that remains unique in the absence of reliable official statistics on this subject to date. Efforts have been made to establish a reasonably consistent dataset for the period 1990-2008 derived from the CMIE-PROWESS database. Care has been taken to condense the data and classify it by sector, location, size and ownership. The study delineates export patterns by firm and state and explores factors influencing export decisions according to sector, size and location. A further interesting aspect is the book’s critical examination of industrial and trade promotion policies at the state/regional level that might have contributed to or hindered exporting by firms. The states considered for detailed policy discussions are highly diverse and include Gujarat, Odisha and Karnataka. To address the glaring absence of literature on the role of subnational factors in enterprises’ export performance, a preliminary state-by-state analysis of the spatial determinants of firms’ export activities is also provided.

: This book is an experiment in understanding ground realities and descriptions of contemporary social problems. Current debates about social and economic human rights emphasize vital, economically driven needs for food, shelter, health care, and basic education while ignoring equally fundamental needs for socialization, interpersonal caring, and meaningful associations. This gives a distorted picture of social and economic human rights and allows the provision of economic needs to be promoted without due attention to the social needs that accompany them. Similarly, debates about civil and political human rights have focused on the rights against torture and cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment while giving little or no attention to the intersection between these exclusions. Social exclusion is a socially constructed concept, and can depend on an idea of what is considered ‘normal.’ The concept of social exclusion is contested, in that it is often difficult to ‘objectively’ identify who is socially excluded, as it is a matter of the criteria adopted and the judgments used. The state of Jharkhand is one of the migrating states, especially for child laborers. Their labor is unaccountable. They usually suffer from anemia and reproductive infections. One of the main obstacles to tribal development is superstitious beliefs and practices. They think that the diseases, famines, water scarcities, weak crops, the spread of epidemics and premature death, etc. befall on them only when the evil spirits are angry. Thus the socio-economic condition of the tribal is very poor caused of many factors, i.e. undulating topography, less cultivable land with no irrigation facilities, lack of Govt. infrastructure facilities and superstitious beliefs, etc. Migration and child trafficking must be prevented through the collaborative action of influential members of society and community leaders, police personnel, media people, NGOs working in the field and individuals who are in a professional capacity can influence state legislation to successfully combat trafficking. Education with professional/ technical skills education for income generation activities is needed. It doesn’t lead to a better fortune for most of the girls going out of their homes but dark lanes where they are forever lost, where their lives end as victims of sexual exploitation in various ways and they fall prey to sexual exploitation in the brothels or outside the brothels. Maya is taken aback when Priya's brother, Dhruv, whom she despises, joins them on the trip. As the days pass, they become fond of each other, turning from enemies to lovers. Priya starts doubting her decision to marry Rahul when she starts having feelings for Kunal. These good times eventually end when Priya confesses about her soon-to-be marriage to Rahul, which she had kept a secret from Maya and Kunal, fearing their reaction. Rahul is an unworthy guy for Priya who body shames her and tries to control her life. The plot develops as Maya and Kunal support Priya's happiness by attending her wedding despite the conflict. During this period, Priya understands her love for Kunal, who helps her realise her worth and fight against all the injustices done to her in the past. On the other hand, Maya realises her love for Dhruv through her constant jealousy when she sees him with other women at the wedding. The story ends when Priya finally takes a stand against the unfair treatment, leaves the marriage, and opens her bakery after pursuing the course. Maya gets engaged to Dhruv, and love steps into her life again after all these years.

Criticism is an exercise of judgment and literary criticism is an exercise of judgment on a work of literature. Literary criticism interprets and evaluates a work of literature in a given context. As it is said, literary criticism is not every body’s cup of tea, it is rather difficult task. This book presents the glimpses of critical theories down from Longinus to Derrida. It also provides an account of modern trends in literary criticism. It presents the theoretical concepts of literary criticism and creative process in brief. The book covers major trends and their approaches in brief to convince the reader about the elementary aspects of existed critical theories and creativity. Here, an attempt has been made to simplify the critical theories, keeping in mind the conceptual ability of the students’ community at graduate level. No doubt the book will meet out the basic needs and urge of the students who aspire to understand literature and literary criticism. This is the result of my several years of teaching experience, particularly, the literary criticism, critical theories and creative literature. Many students of literature feel difficult to understand these critical theories at graduate level. The complexities of the students in understanding instigated me to simplify these concepts to their level of understanding. In writing this short discourse I have had the guidance of many senior teachers who are well acquainted with critical theories. Besides, I have leaned more or less heavily on ‘Contemporary Literary Theory; A Students Companion’ by N.Krishnaswamy, ‘Modern Theories of Poetic Criticism’ by R.S.Tiwary, Berely, Long’s ‘Marxism and Art; Writings in Aesthetics and Criticism’, Literary Criticism: An Introduction’ by Prof.G.B.Sajjan, I acknowledge all these writers and publishers for their explicit reference in the body of the book.
