This volume is the fruit of a highly productive international research gathering academic and professional (field- and museum) colleagues to discuss new results and approaches, recent finds and alternative theoretical assessments of the period of transition and transformation of classical towns in Late Antiquity. Experts from an array of modern countries attended and presented to help compare and contrast critically archaeologies of diverse regions and to debate the qualities of the archaeology and the current modes of study. While a number of papers inevitably focused on evidence available for both Spain and Portugal, we were delighted to have a spread of contributions that extended the picture to other territories in the Late Roman West and Mediterranean. The emphasis was very much on the images presented by archaeology (rescue and research works, recent and past), but textual data were also brought into play by various contributors.

This study by the University of Basque Country Gluten Analysis Laboratory analyzes the gluten free diet from different perspectives. The authors provide background information on gluten, celiac disease, and other pathologies related to gluten intake. Later chapters cover topics such as techniques for gluten detection in foodstuffs and additives, as well as techniques used in complex matrices. Given that the only effective treatment for celiac disease is a strict, lifelong, gluten-free diet, and that the ingestion of small amounts of gluten can cause major symptoms in gluten intolerants, in recent years there has been an increasing interest in gluten free foodstuffs. In fact, the gluten-free product market has become one of the most prosperous in the field of food and beverages. The book provides a detailed analysis of the nutritional composition of gluten-free foodstuffs and a comparison with their gluten containing analogues. While targeted towards clinicians and science professionals, such as those working to develop gluten-free foods, it also discusses the energy and nutrient content of a gluten-free diet and offers different nutritional education strategies to improve the eating habits and nutritional status of those living with celiac disease.

Internet-based information systems, the second covering the large-scale in- gration of heterogeneous computing systems and data resources with the aim of providing a global computing space. Eachofthesefourconferencesencouragesresearcherstotreattheirrespective topics within a framework that incorporates jointly (a) theory, (b) conceptual design and development, and (c) applications, in particular case studies and industrial solutions. Following and expanding the model created in 2003, we again solicited and selected quality workshop proposals to complement the more “archival” nature of the main conferences with research results in a number of selected and more “avant-garde” areas related to the general topic of Web-based distributed c- puting. For instance, the so-called Semantic Web has given rise to several novel research areas combining linguistics, information systems technology, and ar- ?cial intelligence, such as the modeling of (legal) regulatory systems and the ubiquitous nature of their usage. We were glad to see that ten of our earlier s- cessful workshops (ADI, CAMS, EI2N, SWWS, ORM, OnToContent, MONET, SEMELS, COMBEK, IWSSA) re-appeared in 2008 with a second, third or even ?fth edition, sometimes by alliance with other newly emerging workshops, and that no fewer than three brand-new independent workshops could be selected from proposals and hosted: ISDE, ODIS and Beyond SAWSDL. Workshop - diences productively mingled with each other and with those of the main c- ferences, and there was considerable overlap in authors.
