This book discusses local area planning in the Lombardy region of Italy. The book provides valuable insights about the development of local welfare systems and the territorial organization of social services through the analysis of the evolution of the Local Area Plan, which lies at the intersection of sub regional governance and of social services delivery models. Using Lombardy as a case study, this brief analyzes the structural conditions influencing the establishment of Local Area Plans, their effect on inter-municipal cooperation, and the need for possible reforms. The book is organized as follows: the first chapter presents a reconstruction of the national and regional framework, analyzing the structure of ties and opportunities within which Local Area Plans are called to act. The second chapter provides a review of the extant literature on Local Area Plans and introduces the theoretical framework used by the volume. The third chapter details legislation introduced in Lombardy to reform the governance structure of Local Area Plans by supporting a process of reorganization and aggregation. The fourth chapter presents some cases of Local Area Plan aggregation. The final chapter presents the conclusion and some brief considerations about the future of social planning. In the Mirror of the Prodigal Son provides a comprehensive history of the function of the parable of the prodigal son in shaping religious identity in medieval and Reformation Europe. By investigating a wealth of primary sources, the book reveals the interaction between commentaries, sermons, religious plays, and images as a decisive factor in the increasing popularity of the prodigal son. Pietro Delcorno highlights the ingenious and multifaceted uses of the parable within pastoral activities and shows the pervasive presence of the Bible in medieval communication. The prodigal son narrative became the ideal story to convey a discourse about sin and penance, grace and salvation. In this way, the parable was established as the paradigmatic biography of any believer.
Pietro Gaietto, archaeologist, artist and essayist, recalled that happiness is repeated many times in people's lives. In his youth, happiness was a consequence of his important discoveries of bifacial anthropomorphic lithic sculpture of the ancient Stone Age (Paleolithic). In another period he found happiness exploring new styles of shapes and colors in his activity as an artist. On other occasions happiness came from making new friends.

A concise, up-to-date overview of the applications of mass spectrometry To be able to estimate the potentiality of grapes and how it may be transferred into wine is key to grasping enological chemistry. Nowadays, mass spectrometry is a crucial aspect in ensuring the production, the quality, and the safety of grape, wine, and grape derivative products. Mass Spectrometry in Grape and Wine Chemistry examines in depth the relationship between the high structural identification power of mass spectrometry techniques and the chemistry of grapes and wine. The text is divided into two parts. The first section provides an overview of mass spectrometry methods in relation to enology in three chapters. The second section offers seven chapters on wine chemistry as well as traditional topics and new developments in mass spectrometry. Mass Spectrometry in Grape and Wine Chemistry explores many mass spectrometry applications, including: Ionization methods Mass analyzers and mass measurements Mass spectrometry methodologies Grape aroma compounds Volatile and aroma compounds in wines Grape and wine polyphenols Compounds released by wood into wine Wine defects caused by compounds Pesticide detection analysis Peptides and proteins of grape and wine Written by leading experts in the field, this book presents an introduction to mass spectrometry and outlines ways to maximize quality control and product safety for the best results. Mass Spectrometry in Grape and Wine Chemistry is an essential handbook for laboratories working in enology.
In Copernicus in the Cultural Debates of the Renaissance, Pietro Daniel Omodeo presents a general overview of the reception of Copernicus’s astronomical proposal from the years immediately preceding the publication of De revolutionibus (1543) to the Roman prohibition of heliocentric hypotheses in 1616. Relying on a detailed investigation of early modern sources, the author systematically examines a series of issues ranging from computation to epistemology, natural philosophy, theology and ethics. In addition to offering a pluralistic and interdisciplinary perspective on post-Copernican astronomy, the study goes beyond purely cosmological and geometrical issues and engages in a wide-ranging discussion of how Copernicus’s legacy interacted with European culture and how his image and theories evolved as a result.
This book shows, for the very first time, how love stories — a vital issue in our lives — can be tentatively described with classical mathematics. Focus is on the derivation and analysis of reliable models that allow one to formally describe the expected evolution of love affairs from the initial state of indifference to the final romantic regime. The models are in full agreement with the basic philosophical principles of love psychology. Eight chapters are theoretically oriented and discuss the romantic relationships between important classes of individuals identified by particular psychological traits. The remaining chapters are devoted to case studies described in classical poems or in worldwide famous films.
This book provides a theoretical and practical framework for researchers and practitioners who focus on the construction, interpretation and retextualisation of audiovisual texts. It defines translation as a communicative and interpretative process, with translators seen as cross-cultural mediators who make the denotative-semantic and connotative-pragmatic dimensions of source scripts accessible to target receivers, prompting equivalent perlocutionary effects, while still respecting the original illocutionary force. While existing research on audiovisual translation generally adopts a product-based perspective, examining the lexico-semantic and syntactic features of source and target versions, this book proposes an “Interactive Model”, in order to explore what happens in the translators’ minds, as well as the influence of the interaction between the linguistic and extralinguistic dimensions in the construction and interpretation of audiovisual texts. The application of this Model to the analysis of a corpus of humorous films, TV series and video games foregrounds the integration between the analysis of the source-text features and the knowledge of the target linguacultural backgrounds in the creation of pragmalingustic equivalent scripts. At the same time, this book also provides valuable insights into the audience’s reception of these translations, by submitting close-ended and open-ended questionnaires to subjects representing empirical receivers, thus helping to evaluate the degree of linguistic and functional equivalence of target versions.

Why does J.S. Bach's music deeply resonate in our soul and in our churches like no other one? How can treasures keep hidden in a work that was studied and explored during three centuries? You'll find here the lonely and passionate discovery of marvelous multiple canons structures in many of the famous works of a music history's giant, crowned by surprising revelations, that give some new path of attributing the pieces. The analysis of the historical and cultural context and of some contemporaries' masterpiece let emerge Bach's outstanding earing and compositive talent, explaining his excellence during the organ tournaments. This unveiling is the starting point for a speculative journey using room-acoustics, psycho-acoustics and music performer's practice knowledges to explain why Bach did adopt this compositive strategy, this "secret ingredient" to excel.
This book is a distinctively original biography of Galileo Galilei, probably the last eclectic genius of the Italian Renaissance, who was not only one of the greatest scientists ever, but also a philosopher, a theologian, and a man of great literary, musical, and artistic talent – “The Tuscan Artist”, as the poet John Milton referred to him. Galileo was exceptional in simultaneously excelling in the Arts, Science, Philosophy, and Theology. These diverse aspects of his life were closely intertwined; indeed, it may be said that he personally demonstrated that human culture is not divisible, but rather one, with a thousand shades. Galileo also represented the bridge between two historical epochs. As the philosopher Tommaso Campanella, a contemporary of Galileo, recognized at the time, Galileo was responsible for ushering in a new age, the Modern Age. This book, which is exceptional in the completeness of its coverage, explores all aspects of the life of Galileo, as a Tuscan artist and giant of the Renaissance, in a stimulating and reader-friendly way.
