Xavier and Ida Magee, once college sweethearts, appear happily married. They take trips to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, eat at fancy restaurants, and enjoy the cushy lifestyle of a 1980s major league baseball star. Then, everything goes wrong. Xavier is released from his position as a New York Yankees pitcher and falls into heavy drinking. That’s not all. Xavier finds a love letter penned by Ida to the Reverend Reynaldo Tippins, a prominent and handsome Oakland, California, minister. When the situation gets worse, the couple goes to a marriage counselor, and just as things appear to be looking up, Ida makes a shocking announcement that ruins everything. Despite his pain and confusion, Xavier is now determined to cut back on the booze and make a baseball comeback, while also working to become a writer. Amid Xavier trying to save his adulterous marriage and revive his stalled career, he finds a new lease on life. He must redeem himself, but will he succeed?

Unfortunately, his parents, Southern-born and part of the 1950s exodus by African Americans to the West Coast, view Isaiahs scholarship as an opportunity to fulfill Martin Luther Kings dreams of racial and educational equality. Too bad Isaiah doesnt see it that way. Coming from a drastically different background, Isaiah has a difficult time relating to any of the students, and he soon clashes with instructors and fellow classmates. After he meets the beautiful and intelligent Jenaye Gardner and begins a promising love affair, things begin to spiral more out of control. Isaiah has only one goal in mind: to get kicked out of the most elite boarding school in California. Fifteen years later. Isaiah is at a turning point in his life, successful in business, he has the opportunity to attend the Chadwick reunion, and to reconnect with his first love. Will this be the beginning of the next chapter in his life?

The authors also raise important questions about our social future and whether off-grid living creates an environmentally and culturally sustainable lifestyle practice. These homes are experimental labs for our collective future, an intimate look into unusual contemporary domestic lives, and a call to the rest of us leading ordinary lives to examine what we take for granted. This book contains never before published information, including artillery firing tables, for an Indiana infantry regiment converted to heavy artillery. It concentrates upon these Hoosiers' three-and-a-half years of duty in the Trans-Mississippi Theater and Gulf states during the Civil War, often as a separate command. They acted as infantry, cavalry and light artillery (with captured cannons) before being converted to heavy artillery in 1863. Their cannons and artillery equipment were hauled by hundreds of mules. The regiment participated in the taking of New Orleans, securing an important rail link to Morgan City, Louisiana, the Teche Campaign, the siege and reduction of Port Hudson, the Red River Campaign, and sieges and reductions of Fort Gaines, Fort Morgan, Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely, Alabama.
