Due to the scarcity of oil in the future, alternative resources and production pathways for the production of chemicals need to be identified. To allow for an economic production of these chemicals, the use of innovative equipment and methods has to be investigated to intensify the processes. Reaction distillation integrates separation by distillation and reaction into one unit and is already known to be a promising concept to improve process performance, leading to more sustainable processes. However, the design of reactive distillation processes using bio-based raw materials is difficult because the wide impurity profile of the reactants may lead to a large number of additional reactions and thermodynamic non-idealties. Hence, within this work, a 4-step methodology for the design of a reactive distillation column processing bio-based resources is presented. In this study, the focus is on the impact of impurities, resulting from the use of bio-based raw material. Based on these results, the product purity in presence of the impurities is analysed and operational and design changes to overcome identified product purity limitations will be presented.
This concise, easy-to-use resource on the Holocaust is rich in factual and statistical information, and provides a comprehensive compilation of the people and terms that are essential for an understanding of the Holocaust. In 2,000 entries, it profiles major personalities, covers concentration and death camps, cities and countries, and significant events. Also included are important terms translated from German, French, Polish, Yiddish, and twelve other languages. Biographical entries give a brief history, the person's significance, and their historical context. Geographical entries pinpoint exact locations using other cities or countries as landmarks, and give the number of Jewish inhabitants before Nazi occupation, and the percentage of Jews killed. Historical background is provided for such events as Kristallnacht and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, and entries on concentration and death camps give details on the nationalities interned, the camp's specific location, and its history. This reference is impressive in its scope and includes major perpetrators, bystanders, collaborators, victims, rescuers such as Righteous Gentiles, Jewish ghetto fighters, and partisans. It also explores the role of women and the complicity of physicians and industrialists during the Holocaust more fully than any other reference. This dictionary provides the information needed by students whose understanding of the Holocaust is limited by the absence of a single accessible research text.
A comprehensive resource that helps candidates tackle the intricacies of the relationship between Hitler and his lieutenants and the power structure of the Nazi state. This book has been written for Edexcel and with the right level of depth for A2. contains thorough and up-to-date exam preparation, including practice questions, advice on what makes a good answer and help for students on how to interpret the questions and plan essays. is written by an expert author team who have a wide experience of teaching and examining A-level History and focus on exactly what students need to know and how to prepare for the exam.
“Using letters, diaries, and memoirs, Metcalfe distills the personalities, viewpoints, and day-to-day reactions of five alert and often directly involved witnesses to Hitler’s consolidation of power. They are: U.S. Ambassador to Germany, William Dodd, and his high-spirited daughter, Martha; Bella Fromm, a glamorous German society columnist who was Jewish and made no secret of it; Ernest Hanfstaengl, Hitler’s somewhat buffoonish foreign-press chief; and Rudolf Diels, the first head of the Gestapo.” —Publishers Weekly
Plants are incredibly sensitive to changes in temperature. Changes of a single degree or two in ambient temperature can impact plant architecture, developmental processes, immune response, and plant reproduction. Temperature and Plant Development thoroughly explores plant molecular responses to changes in temperature with aim to understanding how plants perceive, integrate, and respond to temperature signals. Temperature and Plant Development explores the diverse molecular responses that plants exhibit as they face changing temperatures. Temperature-related changes and adaptations to essential developmental processes, such as germination, flowering, and reproduction, are explored in detail. Chapters also explore the impact of temperature on plant immune responses and the impact of rising temperatures on global food security. A timely and important book, Temperature and Plant Development will be a valuable resource for plant biologists, crop scientists, and advanced students. • Up-to-date and comprehensive coverage of the role of temperature on plant development. • Looks at changes and adaptations to plant developmental processes made in response to changing temperatures. • Explores the role of temperature on plant immune response and pathogen defense • Provides a timely look at the impact of changing temperatures on global food security
Reading Chinese Transnationalisms responds to the growing interest in transnational cultural studies by examining Chinese transnationalism from a variety of perspectives. In interrogating social practices and literary and filmic texts which frequently cross national borders in imagining Chineseness, the contributors to this volume also challenge received notions of Chinese transnationalism, opening up new perspectives on the topic. The structure of the book is clearly subdivided into sections on society, literature, and films for quick reference, and each essay is written in accessible language without sacrificing intellectual rigor and critical relevance. The international list of contributors and the wide-ranging subjects they address make Reading Chinese Transnationalisms a unique work in its field. This volume will appeal to all with an interest in Chinese transnationalism, and in particular those who come from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds in the humanities and social science.
A study of Germany between 1919 and 1945 for AS and A Level History students. It is designed to fulfil the AS and A Level specifications in place from September 2000. The two AS sections deal with narrative and explanation of the topic. There are extra notes, biography boxes and definitions in the margin, and summary boxes to help students assimilate the information. The A2 section reflects the different demands of the higher level examination by concentrating on analysis and historians' interpretations of the material covered in the AS sections. There are practice questions and hints and tips on what makes a good answer.
This volume focuses on the architect Philip Johnson's long association with The Museum of Modern Art, with essays examining his roles as patron, as curator, and as the institution's unofficial architect from the late 1940s to the early 1970s.
A common theme in the India Briefing series has been India's resilience in the face of turmoil and tragedy. This year's volume demonstrates that India is under greater stress than ever before. In the country's severest test, India's secular foundations were shaken by the storming and destruction of the Barbi mosque in Ayodhya. This act of violence
This comprehensive reference work describes in an instructive manner the combination of different membrane operations such as enzyme membrane reactors (EMR's), microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), nanofiltration (NF) and osmotic distillation (OD) is studied in order to identify their synergistic effects on the optimization of processes in agro-food productions (fruit juices, wines, milk and vegetable beverages) and wastewater treatments within the process intensification strategy. The introduction to integrated membrane operations is followed by applications in the several industries of the food sector, such as valorization of food processing streams, biocatalytic membrane reactors, and membrane emulsification.
