The American Dream is the ideal that every citizen of the United States should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. And, this is my journey. I was born into a Spanish family in an apartment behind a cantina in a northern New Mexican mountain village. Our ancestors came from the Archuleta region of Spain in the 1500s. I was the oldest son of eight children. You may recognize this part of the country because of Georgia O’Keefe’s famous landscape paintings of the area. She fell in love with the area surrounding my hometown of El Rito. With a tremendous passion for life, a keen mind, strong work ethic, integrity and a spiritual focus, my life has been remarkable, without my having to forget or distance myself from the strong roots of my family and heritage along the way. I’ve been knocked down and have gotten back up countless times. I have survived three near-death experiences, betrayals by both family and friends, unsuccessful runs for Congress and the State Legislature, and the loss of a very successful company. With all that being said, I’ve been able to successfully navigate through it all because of my unwavering faith, courage, hard work, focus, and my strong moral compass. By the Grace of God, I have created scientific discoveries, for which I hold five patents. I have met with Presidents, Senators, Congressmen, members of the U.S. Judiciary, and U.S. Cabinet Secretaries, all in an attempt to bring jobs to rural America. I am grateful to Manuel Lujan, Jr. who was a Congressman for 30 years and the Secretary of the Department of the Interior under President George H.W. Bush, for writing the Foreword to the book. Because this book is filled with stories and insights about my great successes and regrettable failures in business, politics, and as an inventor, my hope is that it would be enjoyed by readers seeking inspiration, entrepreneurs, inventors, people interested in politics, among others. Because I am of Spanish descent, I would hope that it would be enjoyed by readers interested in a poor Hispanic man’s perspective on reaching for the American Dream.

He is torn between his old neighborhood loyalties, with the life of luxury his friends promise, and his devotion to his profession. As he tries to do the right thing, he soon discovers that everything is not always so black and white in his world. The young assistant D.A. struggles with these notions, trying desperately to balance the two; all the while falling deeper in love. All of it seems to be coming to a head and it may just cost him everything; including Baxter's love.

Whilst in a book this size not every argument can be presented, there is ample extra material to be found to encourage further engagement... At the end of each chapter, there is a very useful Further Reading section provided by the authors, which gives useful guidelines. I believe to be an extremely useful text, which addresses what has until now been a significant gap in the market. This book will be my first choice in the future for introducing doctoral students of management-related subject to the philosophical underpinning they require for their studies. There is no other text which covers this area so clearly, so succinctly and in language that is readily accessible to a wide range of researcher back-grounds. I can enviSAGE this being a valuable source book to which researchers return again and again in order to deepen their understanding as research projects progress; it certainly provoked some new questions for me. To conclude, an excellent buy' - International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation This is an invaluable introduction for all students and researchers of management confronting a new research project. Understanding Management Research provides an overview of the principal epistemological debates in social science and how these lead to and are expressed in different ways of conceiving and undertaking organizational research. For researchers and students who are increasingly expected to adopt a reflexive understanding of their own epistemological position, the authors present a concise, accessible guide to the different perspectives available and their implications for research output. All students undertaking empirical research for theses and dissertations will find this book helps them comprehend the key ongoing debates and engage with their own pre-understandings when trying to make sense of management and organizations.

Together they formed the “Core Four,” and would go on to play as teammates for 13 seasons during which time they would help the Yankees advance to the postseason 12 times, win the American League pennant seven times, and take home five World Series trophies. At the outbreak of the First World War, de László had pulled strings to be naturalised as British, but in 1919 he was referred to a public committee to revoke his naturalisation. With the aid of skilled counsel, de László had the application overturned – however, newly discovered records show MI5 had evidence obtained from a top-secret source that alleged that he was supplying the enemy with important information on politics and industrial production. Crucially, the source's anonymity prevented MI5 from presenting evidence to the tribunal, which has particular resonance in the contemporary War on Terror. In the only book to examine MI5's secret evidence, Phil Tomaselli explores these allegations and reaches a shocking conclusion.

Likewise, scientists have lost patience with their colleagues' and government's failure to adequately address environmental health issues and to safeguard research from corporate manipulation. Focusing specifically on breast cancer, asthma, and Gulf War-related health conditions-"contested illnesses" that have generated intense debate in the medical and political communities-Phil Brown shows how these concerns have launched an environmental health movement that has revolutionized scientific thinking and policy. Before the last three decades of widespread activism regarding toxic exposures, people had little opportunity to get information. Few sympathetic professionals were available, the scientific knowledge base was weak, government agencies were largely unprepared, laypeople were not considered bearers of useful knowledge, and ordinary people lacked their own resources for discovery and action. Brown argues that organized social movements are crucial in recognizing and acting to combat environmental diseases. His book draws on environmental and medical sociology, environmental justice, environmental health science, and social movement studies to show how citizen-science alliances have fought to overturn dominant epidemiological paradigms. His probing look at the ways scientific findings are made available to the public and the changing nature of policy offers a new perspective on health and the environment and the relationship among people, knowledge, power, and authority.
