From 1942–1945 the Allies’ war in the Southwest Pacific was effectively a bilateral coalition between the United States and Australia under the command of General Douglas MacArthur. By charting the evolution of the military effectiveness of the US-Australian alliance, MacArthur’s Coalition puts the relationship between the United States and Australia at the center of the war against Japan. Drawing on new primary source material, Peter J. Dean has written the first substantial book-length treatment of the coalition as a combined military force. This expansive and ambitious book provides a fresh perspective on the Pacific War by providing a close-up, in-depth account of operations in the Southwest Pacific from the Kokoda Trail campaign to the reconquest of the Philippines and Borneo. Dean’s work takes the reader deep into the key military headquarters in the Southwest Pacific and reveals the discussions, debates, and arguments between key commanders and staff officers during the course of planning and waging a monumental conflict. Drawing upon archival records across three continents, Dean brings the qualities of these senior officers to life by exploring the critical importance of personalities and leadership in overcoming cultural, doctrinal, and organizational divides in the largely unequal alliance. With over 40 years of national and international experience, Peter bases his executive coaching and consulting work on current research and best practices in the field of leadership development. Leaders By Design helps executives recognize and understand the intricacies inherent in global leadership and dealing with diverse cultures and sub-cultures. Peter worked in Europe and Asia for 8 years and has lectured, consulted and coached in 14 countries. He is a prolific author whose articles have frequently been published in a variety of news outlets and he has also authored 11 books in his career including: Leadership for Everyone (McGraw-Hill, 2005); and his most recent book, The Bully-Proof Workplace: Essential Strategies, Tips and Scripts for Dealing with the Office Sociopath (McGraw-Hill, 2017), which he co-authored with his partner and spouse Molly Shepard. He was a lecturer in Communication, Ethics and Leadership at The Wharton School and the Fels Center of Government both at The University of Pennsylvania. Peter held the O. Alfred Granum Chair in Management at The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and he has been on the faculty at Fordham University, University of Tennessee, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Iowa. Peter holds his PhD from the University of Iowa and a MS degree from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2018, Peter received an Applied Neuroscience Certificate on the Science of the Art of Coaching endorsed by ION, ICF and the Association for Coaching.

This book is the result of thousands of encounters with tube-fed infants and their families over the past four decades. The ailing and fragile children, suffering from a myriad of medical conditions acted as muses and mentors teaching more than could be expected. This book is addressed to medical professionals, early interventionists, pediatricians, child surgeons, nurses, dieticians, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists (SLPs), feeding specialists, psychologists, physiotherapists, infant psychiatrists as well as parents. The medically fragile child (MFC) is the subject of the authors’ work when it is concerned with enteral nutrition support (ENS) by means of a feeding tube (ENT). As pediatricians and psychotherapists, they have been treating eating and feeding disorders of children since 1986 and with this book they pass on knowledge they have garnered over three decades. Over 5,000 children have been weaned off their feeding tubes. Tube weaning requires the evaluation of medical, nutritional, sensory, developmental, metabolic and growth-related findings. The review of the literature around this subject has provided a source of inspiration as well as critical self-reflection; the authors wish to offer their insight and ideas on how to approach child-led tube-management and tube-weaning to all healthcare professional involved in the management of these children.
