Pete Cladianos, Jr.'s candid memoir of his father, Pete Cladianos, Sr., the business empire that they built together, and the social, economic, and governmental environments in which they operated. Among Nevada's early homegrown gambling entrepreneurs was Greek immigrant Pete Cladianos, Sr., who opened a cigar store in Reno and started a slot machine route shortly after casino gambling was legalized in Nevada in 1931. Over the next 30 years, he and his family built a business empire that included bars, motels, hotels, and a mercantile business. In the 1960s, Pete Cladianos, Jr. took on responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the family enterprises. The family established the Sands Regency Hotel-Casino in Reno, and under Pete Jr.'s leadership, the Sands went on to become one of the larger and more successful operations in Reno and among the first gaming businesses in the nation to go public.
