His stories about Social Security reform, tax-exempt organizations, and pension fund reform legislation make these complex topics easy to understand. Along the way, Jake remembers many of the national figures he has known, including perhaps the two most significant in his career - Lyndon Johnson and John Connally. Just as interesting are his recollections of the family, friends, and staff members who supported his career and made it possible.

Since she saw little to admire and much to criticise, she simply reminded herself, frequently, that Lady Catherine against all expectation and logic had bestowed a valuable Benefice upon an unknown, untried priest. Thus, at a remove, giving Charlotte the home and life that she loved and cherished. Her gratitude for that was beyond expressing.

As a young child, Peggy attended a one-room schoolhouse and walked, biked, or sledded the three miles to school and back, no matter the weather.
