Structural analysis of Australian hunter-gatherer societies and a critical assessment of Northern Algonkian literature suggested to the authors the possibility that the social organization of the Cree may have been premised on something other than the nuclear family and institution of cross-cousin marriage. Indeed, data collected from Shamattawa, a Swampy Cree community in northern Manitoba, indicates that the social structure operates on four distinct, yet productively undifferentiated, levels reflected both in relationship terms and ideology. This resulted in a revised model of band society.

Anti-Americanism' is an unusual expression; although stereotypes and hostility exist toward every nation, we do not hear of 'anti-Italianism' or 'anti-Brazilianism'. Only Americans have elevated such sentiment to the level of a world view, an explanatory factor so significant as to merit a name - an 'ism' - usually reserved for comprehensive ideological systems or ingrained prejudice. This book challenges the scholarly consensus that blames criticism of the United States on foreigners' irrational resistance to democracy and modernity. Tracing 200 years of the concept of anti-Americanism, this book argues that it has constricted political discourse about social reform and US foreign policy, from the War of 1812 and the Mexican War to the Cold War, from Guatemala and Vietnam to Iraq. Research in nine countries in five languages, with attention to diplomacy, culture, migration and the circulation of ideas, shows that the myth of anti-Americanism has often damaged the national interest.

Parkinsonism of various types has long been a debilitating and cruel affliction for significant numbers of people, and even today the cure remains elusive. The present volume explores the colorful and sometimes alarming history of the attempts to provide at least some relief from the symptoms of this disorder, commencing with interesting reports from ancient India and medieval Europe and continuing until the present time. Especial attention is devoted to L-DOPA therapy, still the leading pharmacological approach to the disorder more than forty years after its first application, and its place in the development of neurochemistry. But the employment of solanaceous plant alkaloid-based therapies, which dominated antiparkinsonian therapy until the mid-20th century, and the broad range of other approaches which found varying degrees of popularity, including those stimulated by the encephalitis epidemic which appeared in Europe during the First World War, are also discussed. The author concludes that antiparkinsonian therapy was never 'irrational', but was rather always determined by prevailing medical, pharmacological and scientific paradigms, so that its history is inextricably linked with experimental and clinical developments in these fields.

The three parts cover: monitoring problems and processes; monitoring measurement and alerting systems; and monitoring management. In the last part the author details management plans and guidance for monitoring assisted systems based on his understanding of the problems of continued human vigilance. Unterschieden werden dabei zwei Veröffentlichungsformen: Almanache und Journale. "Lokale Theater-Journale" geben eine Rückschau auf die vergangene Saison einer Spielstätte. Diese Journale sind häufig die einzige Quelle zum künstlerischen wie technischen Personal eines Theaters. In der Regel von Souffleuren und Souffleusen einer Bühne auf eigene Kosten hergestellt und als Zusatzverdienst verkauft, waren sie für das lokale Publikum gedacht und enthalten oft auch Gedichte, Anekdoten oder Couplets. "Universale Theater-Almanache" bieten Informationen über mehrere Theater. Sie verzeichnen internationale deutschsprachige Theatergesellschaften samt Personal in über 3.600 Orten. Die Angaben wurden im Herbst von der jeweiligen Direktion an eine Redaktion berichtet, die Almanache und Jahrbücher wurden überregional vertrieben und meist über einen längeren Zeitraum herausgegeben. Aufgrund der weltweiten Verbreitung des deutschsprachigen Theaters wenden sich die Bände der Reihe an ein internationales Publikum. Titeleien und einleitende Texte sind deshalb auf Deutsch und Englisch verfasst.
