This collection of the writings of Paul Feyerabend is focused on his philosophy of quantum physics, the hotbed of the key issues of his most debated ideas. Written between 1948 and 1970, these writings come from his first and most productive period. These early works are important for two main reasons. First, they document Feyerabend's deep concern with the philosophical implications of quantum physics and its interpretations. These ideas were paid less attention in the following two decades. Second, the writings provide the crucial background for Feyerabend's critiques of Karl Popper and Thomas Kuhn. Although rarely considered by scholars, Feyerabend's early work culminated in the first version of Against Method. These writings guided him on all the key issues of his most well-known and debated theses, such as the incommensurability thesis, the principles of proliferation and tenacity, and his particular version of relativism, and more specifically on quantum mechanics.

This study presents a comprehensive taxonomic revision of the four genera and 287 species of the tribe Heterospilini (Hymenoptera: Doryctinae) that occur in Costa Rica. This tribe is represented almost entirely by the hyperdiverse genus Heterospilus Foerster that includes 280 species, 277 of which are described as new to science. Keys are presented to allow the identification of all genera and species; all species are illustrated by scanning electron micrographs and most by color photographs. In addition, an interactive key was prepared using Lucid Builder and is hosted on the Lucid web site. Although very little is known about the biology of this tribe, species of Heterospilus are known to parasitize a very wide range of endophytic, mostly stem- or wood-boring Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. It is hoped that this study will be of benefit to overall studies of biodiversity in the tropics, and provide valuable information for biological control projects against forest pests, not only in Costa Rica, but also throughout the Western Hemisphere.

In a sense, my own life was a page-turner, from day to day, and a wonderful one that I enjoyed and lovedeven the difficult and painful happenings. I think that Ive been tremendously lucky to have had such aalmost a charmed lifeand thats what I wanted to share with the reader. Yes, there were moments and incidents that were difficult and sometimes very painful, like when I said my final goodbye to Maidi, the love of my life, and what a remarkable love that wasseveral professional authors have called that good-bye heartbreaking, and so it was. It was my heart that was breaking, and Maidis, but we both knew that it had to be that way, and we accepted it. And then of course, many, many years later, we finally met again by chance, or by accident, in Paris, and the closure we had needed for so many years finally arrived. I wrote the book when I was ninety, and I was the last survivor of our group of five. We had all been made to swear that we would never tell. But after seventy years, I felt the story could, and should, be told.

Some literary expressions in the Dead Sea Scrolls led scholars to allege that their authors professed a dualistic and deterministic worldview of Zoroastrian origin and that the omission of Moses and Sinai from the Enoch writings evinces that a segment in Jewish society marginalized the Torah, adopting Enoch’s prophecies as its ethical guideline. This study challenges these allegations as utterly conflicting with essential biblical doctrines and the unequivocal beliefs and expectations of Qumran’s Torah-centered society, arguing that scholars’ allegations are erroneously based on interpreting ancient texts with a modern mindset and influenced by the interpreter’s personal cultural background. The study interprets the relevant texts in a manner compatible with the presumed doctrines of ancient Jewish authors and readers.

Our two most abundant waterfowl, the Canada goose and snow goose, have populations collectively totaling about 15 million individuals. Their seasonal migratory flights sometimes span thousands of miles, and the sight of their long, wavering flight formations are as much the symbols of seasonal change as are the spring songs of cardinals or the appearance of autumnal leaf colors. Mortality sources and rates of egg, young, and adult losses are also summarized, and each species' past and current North American populations are estimated.
