The issues specific to male suicide includes the atypical nature of male depression, the role of loneliness, drug and alcohol abuse, the male hormone (testosterone), and men’s preferred method for suicide (guns). Suicide in specific groups of men, including male athletes, soldiers, mass and serial murderers, suicide bombers, murder-suicides, and famous creative men, is discussed in great detail. In addition, the text explores the many and varied reasons for suicide in gay men and in ethnic minorities. The invited contributors provide a cross-cultural viewpoint with essays on male suicide in Australia, China, Ghana, Palestine, and Uganda. Two examples are given for potential programs that appear to be effective for men: Mates in Construction which was designed to help construction workers in Australia, and Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) training. The book concludes with discussions of how to prevent suicide in men, a group known to deny the existence of personal problems and is reluctant to seek help. With three illustrations and 19 tables, this book will be an excellent resource for crisis interveners, researchers, counseling centers, mental health professionals, and human service providers.

Fur ein Fischerleben war er aber auch nicht geboren, so suchte er sich nach Abbruch der Schule in der Stadt eine Arbeit. Als dort seine Jugendliebe sich das Leben nahm, setzte er kurzerhand seine Auswanderungsplane mit dem bereits einmal in Brasilien gewesenen Freund um. Die Erlebnisse in Brasilien lassen den jungen Mann erwachsen werden, ubernimmt Verantwortung fur ein Findelkind und schlagt das Angebot eines Grossgrundbesitzers uneigennutzig aus. Er fuhlte noch nicht den Mut in sich, mit einer Frau ein Schaferstundchen zu suchen. Ganz unausdenkbar war das. Oder noch schlimmer: eine entsetzliche Blamage, weil man vollkommen ratlos stand vor den Feuern, um die die Frau wusste. Dann passierte es aber doch! Ein Jahr war vergangen, zuruck aus der Ferne, wo er nebenbei ein kleines Vermogen zusammentrug, konnte er damit jetzt studieren. Ausgerechnet in der Tochter eines Adeligen fand er die Liebe seines Lebens. Da hatte er als Burgerlicher bald den ganzen Adelsstand am Hals. This volume investigates the question of how both Assyria and Judah could remember the war of 701 BCE as their respective victory. Whilst surveying available evidences for historical reconstructions, Paul S. Evans compares the Sennacherib's Third Campaign with the War of 1812 between Canada and the USA as an example of disputed victory from military history. Evans examines Assyrian and biblical texts to evaluate the conflict and argues that rather than being intentionally deceptive in their accounts of the events, both sides had reasons to perceive the war as a victory. This examination of military narratives also illustrates how the fluctuating support for wartime leaders in 1812 is analogous to positive and negative oracles regarding Jerusalem's leadership during the war years. With differing opinions regarding the success of the Sennacherib's Third Campaign, this book presents an interesting discussion of the events and demonstrates how our understanding of the war between Assyria and Judah can be illuminated by military history.
