The story of Schweizer Aircraft is the story of the American dream. Three brothers became enamored with flight during the golden age of aviation. Aviation becomes their passion. In 1930, they design, build, and then teach themselves to fly in their first glider. They pursue their dream and create a company that eventually produces over six thousand aircraft. The company’s products make aviation history. Bill Schweizer tells the story of those early years — up to the transition of the company in 1981 to the second generation of Schweizers. Paul H. Schweizer picks up the story from there. The Schweizers’ entrepreneurial approach to business and refusal to let go of their dream resulted in the company becoming an industry leader in sailplanes, agricultural spray aircraft, light helicopters, covert surveillance aircraft, and unmanned vehicles. The diversity of its aviation products made it unique. At the time the business was sold to Sikorsky Aircraft in 2004, Schweizer Aircraft was the oldest privately-owned aircraft manufacturer in the world. It is a remarkable story that will inspire others with a passion and a dream.

Johann and Marta Weber are two Prussians in the 1850s, frustrated by the lack of opportunity and poor living conditions in their home country. They decide to seek their family's fortune in the New World, leaving everything behind-including an infant son too fragile to make the rigorous passage overseas-in order to seek a better life for themselves and future generations of the Weber clan. Upon their arrival in America, they find their way to a growing community of Germans and Swedes living along the Ohio River in Indiana. As they begin to settle in to their harsh and unfamiliar circumstances, the Civil War breaks out. Johann joins the Union side, desperate to defend what he now considers to be his home. Tragically, Johann is disabled in battle, which adds to the ever-present difficulty of finding a way to support his family. That Far Land We Dream About tells the tale of immigrants searching for a better way of life. Johann and Marta have much in common with the ancestors of all Americans. It is a story of great adversity, as the Weber family assimilates to a new culture and seeks a happier life within the borders of the land of their dreams.

In this updated, expanded edition, starting with Freud's "projection theory" of religion - that belief in God is merely a product of man's desire for security - Professor Vitz argues that psychoanalysis actually provides a more satisfying explanation for atheism. Disappointment in one's earthly father, whether through death, absence, or mistreatment, frequently leads to a rejection of God. A biographical survey of influential atheists of the past four centuries shows that this "defective father hypothesis" provides a consistent explanation of the "intense atheism" of these thinkers. A survey of the leading defenders of Christianity over the same period confirms the hypothesis, finding few defective fathers. Vitz concludes with an intriguing comparison of male and female atheists and a consideration of other psychological factors that can contribute to atheism. Professor Vitz does not argue that atheism is psychologically determined. Each man, whatever his experiences, ultimately chooses to accept God or reject him. Yet the cavalier attribution of religious faith to irrational, psychological needs is so prevalent that an exposition of the psychological factors predisposing one to atheism is necessary.
