The early phase of industrialization in America devestated many lives by what the author calls 'The Fiery Furnace Effect.' Not only were the initial participants affected, but much of the effect, through them, was carried over into the subsequent generation, and beyond in some cases. This novel focuses upon the intergenerational impact for two decades in the life of young Adam Vasilyevich, born out of wedlock in 1926 in the 'Loch Jean' coal camp of 'Paine County,' West Virginia. His early personal development, in what Borges would call his 'green Garden,' is detailed, as is the subsequent series of events that strip him of his human connections and even his identity. Then he is uprooted from his native soil, like a hickory sapling, and is banished into, for Adam, the urban wilderness of Detroit. There, he is abandoned by his mother, who was his last bond to his previous existence. For six years thereafter, Adam is increasingly demoralized and estranged from his life and from his own self. At that point, he is surely on a path toward a life of crime and self destruction, but a fortunate stroke of fate provides new opportunities for a meaningful and gratifying life. However, Adam has been beaten into a feckless, alienated condition for so long that it is highly problematic whether or not he can marshall any inner resources to take advantage of the new circumstances in Melville Township.

Part two of the book is all about interpreting the book of Revelation. Some of the scriptures have many topics. There are seven topics in Revelation 1:4: These are.... the seven churches; grace; peace; from him which is, and which was, and which is to come, and from the seven spirits: I have capitalized REVELATION and each subsequent TOPIC. The first time I write the scripture I do not put an asterisk in front of REVELATION. After the initial scripture I put an * in the front of every scripture .... *REVELATION until all the topics have been exhausted. EACH NEW SCRIPTURE IN REVELATION IS CAPITALIZED.

This book contains not only a look at the meanings of people and places of the Old Testament but also a brief look at who the people were in that they really did live. In most cases showing they had family, and were a son or a daughter, a brother or sister, the father or mother of a person. The book also tells where the places were and even in the meanings of their names, there is great significance. For every person and place written in the Bible, there is a specific reason, whether for the meaning of the name of a person as in the name Adam (man, red earth) or in the name of a place, as in Bethel (house of God). It will be very enlightening and edifying to see and understand their significance as this book is used as a study help. The reader will also see, while using this reference book, that the contents of this book make looking at the meaning of the names easier. And one will see more clearly that the mystery of God and his plan for his people can be found in the names of the children of Israel, Christ in you the (only) hope of glory. This is just one of the many treasures that is found while looking at the names of the priests and kings of Israel and Judah. Whether a scholar or a layman, there are many treasures to be found in studying the scriptures, and I believe this reference book will be a blessing to anyone as an aid in searching out the hidden gems of the Word of God. This book started as a self-serving exercise to personally organize the major details and interesting facts of each Indianapolis 500 over the hundred-plus-year history of the greatest race in the world. For many of us passionate racing fans who have attended a multitude of 500s, there is a tendency for the details of the races to (somewhat) blend together. I hope this book will help to provide clarity in this regard as well as educate. During high school, many of us chose to use CliffsNotes to assist in the education process. This book is somewhat patterned after that concept. It falls somewhere between Donald Davidson and Rick Schaffer—the best and by far the most detailed book on the history of the Indianapolis 500—and a multitude of pictorial books with limited information. I hope it will prove to be an easy read with entertaining and educational information.
