The opening of the eyes of our understanding and spiritual knowledge of the truth of God's Word is absolutely necessary for deliverance from the spirit of deception. Without the opening of the eyes of our spiritual understanding, freedom is impossible. Satan can actually overcome us and bring us into bondage even when we believe God by faith if we do not exert action in the spiritual realm. When you have discerned the deception of the enemy and recognized the conversations of the enemy within the mind and wills of the flesh (that of physical impulse), you will begin to gain ground on the enemy of your soul. Deception unlatches the gate for evil spirits to come in; passivity provides a place for them to stay. This combination of deception and passivity equals entrenchment of the soul (mind, will, emotions). The common factor for entrenchment is the inactivity of your own God-given free will. We as Christians in our ignorance have been deceived by the powers of the darkness and have fulfilled the conditions for the enemy to work in our lives.
In 1972, I felt impressed of the Lord to write a book about my life and ministry. He even gave me the title, With God As My Partner. I voiced my objection in prayer by "reminding" Him that I had only been preaching for three years and pastoring for one. I had no experience in writing, but all I heard in return was, "Not now." I went through life with many "experiences" (both good and bad) piling up through the years. About four years ago, my wife said, "Ron, why don't you write a book about your life and ministry?" I didn't have any good answer for her; and since she is my best friend, my closest confidant, and my dearest prayer partner, I gave it some serious thought. In the following year, I came in contact with three or four others who asked me the same thing. In view of this, I went to the Lord in sincere prayer, and He said, "Now is the time." The book is not really in any chronological order but goes back and forth at times as I remember things. Again, the only way I could remember times, people, and names is With God As My Partner. I was not striving to produce any item of "literary art," but something that could be shared with others what God has shared with me through the years. It has been an interesting journey, and I look forward to continuing it. When I gave the book its title, it was with a sense of humility, and not arrogance. I am well aware of the fact that the only way I (or anyone else) can "partner" with God is by His grace, realizing that it is all for His glory.

When I finished writing my fist book, which was my autobiography, With God As My Partner, and had submitted it to the publishers for printing, I thought I was done for a while. About two months after that, I was almost asleep one night when the thought came to me: Don't Stay at Calvary. I was instantly awake and lay there for about a half hour trying to figure out what it meant. Getting nowhere, I committed it to the Lord and went to sleep. A couple days later, as I was praying, the verse in Matthew 16:24 came to mind where Jesus said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." It connected with the thought I had about Don't Stay at Calvary. This book is the result of those thoughts and the meditation that I spent on them. I had no thought of writing another book so soon, but I felt impressed to try to address the question I had been asked so often. "Why is the church of today so different from the church of the first century?" I certainly have no "corner on the market" of knowledge or wisdom, especially when it concerns such a profound and involved question as that one. I do, however, have over fifty years in the ministry of the Gospel, having answered the call to preach on the last Sunday of April 1969 and felt it may be beneficial to share what I believe God has laid on my heart about that subject. It is by no means the "final word," but I hope it will be a clear challenge for the church to follow Jesus in service rather than "stay at Calvary" in complacency.
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables (2 Tim. 4:24) The truth of Gods Word must be preached to this generation. Only through the preaching of the Word of God can this world be redeemed. These sermons were given by the inspiration of Gods Holy Spirit. Some sermons will uplift, and some will discipline you. To accept the Word is to accept Gods instructions. To this world, the preaching of Gods word is foolishness. A simply act of preaching on the streets is seen and viewed as a foolish thing to do for many. Some mocked the messenger, and many have mocked our savior Jesus Christ and those who followed after him. I am just Gods humble servant who wants to see many receive Jesus as Lord. Among the many I would like to see receive Jesus as Lord are my earthly family. God is my everything, and everyone deserves to know him and have a relationship with him. My greatest achievement was choosing the Lord as my personal savior. I am very proud to say that I am a child of the King. One of my favorite scripture verses is Isaiah 40:31, But they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint. My favorite song is Invisible Faith by the Canton Spirituals. It is God who helps me live a prayerful, humble, anointed, and appointed life. The scripture says that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (Ps. 37:23). Like John, I cried and will continue be a voice crying in the wilderness saying that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand (Matt. 3:2). Like Isaiah, who heard the voice saying Who will go for me? And he answered and said, Hear am I, Lord send me, Ill go. And like Paul, Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching fourth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil. 3:14).
Security Law and Methods examines suggested security methods designed to diminish or negate the consequence of crime and misconduct, and is an attempt to understand both the legal exposures related to crime and the security methods designed to prevent crime. Breaking new ground in its innovative blend of quantitative and qualitative methods, the book essentially argues that another sort of growth is indeed possible. While offering specific insights for regional leaders and analysts of metropolitan areas, the authors also draw a broader – and quite timely – set of conclusions about how to scale up these efforts to address a U.S. economy still seeking to recover from economic crisis and ameliorate distributional divisions.
An unfettered, probing dialogue between Mexican and American political analysts on the complex relationship between their countries. Few nations are as closely interrelated as the United States and Mexico. Few relationships between nations are so prickly. America's inveterate problem-solving strikes Mexicans as clandestine imperialism. Mexicans are accused of ignoring the flow of drugs through their country; Americans are accused of saddling Mexico with their drug problem. Americans brood over the influx of Mexican immigrants; Mexicans worry that their culture and traditions are being diluted from the north. These differences are now aired−and their origins made clear−in this landmark book by a former official in the Carter administration and one of Mexico's most respected political scholars. In alternating chapters on foreign policy, economic relations, immigration, and social influence, Robert A. Pastor and JorgeC. Castañeda offer a multifaceted view of the ties and conflicts between their countries.
In this second edition of Exiting the Whirlpool, Pastor explores the continuities and the changes in U.S. foreign policy toward Latin America under Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton. Whereas many foreign policy volumes neglect the role of Congress, Pastor devotes an entire chapter to explaining how it has shaped policy. Next, he looks at the recurring challenges that have often pulled the United States into the destructive whirlpool?how the United States has tried but often failed to manage succession crises, pre-empt or undermine revolutionaries, promote or manipulate elections, and encourage or neglect the region's economic development. Pastor offers a series of far-reaching policy recommendations for exiting the whirlpool and forging a hemispheric community of democracies within a free trade area. The first edition was widely acclaimed. The second is thoroughly updated, offering analyses and recommendations for addressing the contemporary democratic and security challenges facing the hemisphere.
