Above the Glebe follows a farming family as the American Revolutionary War drags on. It is the story of loyalty and vengeance, of death and survival. It is also the story of a family divided. On the one side are the five Holmes brothers, who enlist on the Loyalist side. On the other are a vindictive cousin and the two Holmes sisters, both married to revolutionaries. Their choices will have a marked impact on their lives and their futures. Above all, though, this is a story of a family and its strength.

This is a three-book series. It closely follows the Revised Common, Lutheran, Episcopal, and Roman Catholic lectionaries. Pamela Urfer, Soquel, California, has written a number of plays for school and church productions. She has taught classes in church drama at Bethany Bible College and Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center. She holds a master of arts degree in literature from the University of California.

So this is for all the wounded. I need to say to you that you can come through no matter how long it takes; just don't give up. The chains can be broken, and the journey of this book came from a place of shame and pain and disappointments; living with being sexually abused of any kind is a dark, dark place. And the fear of others not believing you is overwhelming. The fear of the abuser's word being believed over the word of the abused is indescribable especially when you are a child and having to go to foster home after foster home became a dread; one never knew how long you would be there or if you would be accepted or how you would be treated. This book also includes personal stories and biblical stories created as theological virtues built on safe spaces that were created by GOD for our life's journey. Each chapter in the book includes a narrative (personal and biblical stories), scriptures, and prayers relative to each safe space. In the years it took me to write this book, I've experienced some unbelievable challenges and barriers that took concentrated practice, reading, and prayer to develop safe spaces. In fact, I've had some pains in my life that took years to heal, and it's only by understanding the theological virtues of being a Christian that enabled me to walk through this journey without losing my mind, becoming an alcoholic or drug addict, or even just giving up on life. These life experiences are the foundation for the theological virtues presented in this book as safe spaces. However, finding my safe space grounded in theological virtues enabled me to endure heartbreak, engage in new endeavors, and embrace life's journey. I pray that you receive the same freedom in finding your safe space.

Transatlantic Engagements with the British Eighteenth Century revisits eighteenth-century cultural artifacts through the lens of creative works produced by contemporary writers Beryl Gilroy (Guyana), Derek Walcott (St. Lucia), Wole Soyinka (Nigeria), and David Dabydeen (Guyana). While early studies of post-colonization literature focused on how revisions of historical works "write back" to the British empire, this study argues that trans-historical, cross-cultural dialogues also reveal the global complexity of eighteenth-century cultural forms (i.e. the periodical essay, travel narrative, pantomime, satirical engraving, and slave narrative). By transforming the generic form of their eighteenth-century sources, the African and Caribbean writers in this study strategically call attention to the modes of storytelling utilized by eighteenth-century writers Richard Steele, Daniel Defoe, Jonathan Swift, William Hogarth, Isaac Bickerstaff, and Ignatius Sancho, and subsequently expose how the encounters, exchanges, and acts of resistance taking place around the world influenced aesthetic experimentation in England. Transatlantic Engagements with the British Eighteenth Century is thus a reconsideration of eighteenth-century literature, art, and drama. However, because these engagements with British literature, art, and drama concurrently reflect twentieth-century encounters with neocolonial oppression, political violence, and racism, this study also proposes that engagements with the British eighteenth century double as inquiries into whether the modern world has progressed since the eighteenth century.
