The posthumously published Hooked on Emotions is a nurtured garden of various emotions of life. The poems, rather the emotions, penned by the author, are marked with an extraordinary and uncommon perception of time, courage, solitude and motivation. The book quenches the thirst of those who have been waiting for the answer to life. They must drink from the oasis of his poetry to find the answer. After succumbing to cancer, the poet made his highest flight without wings. Throughout his suffering, he wore a mask, but his poetry revealed his true journey within. No one knows him better than his own poetry. Floating above the good and bad of life, he romanticized the pain in his life. Numb to the atrocities of time, life and destiny, he simply unfolded the frailty of death and valor of the soul. The vivid imagination of the author and the immeasurable depth of his heart is the most striking feature of the book. He surrendered peacefully to the apocalypse and flew away victorious, leaving the storm defeated.
Plant extracts or their pure natural constituents have been used traditionally for thousands of years for treating diseases with considerable success in India and other Asian countries. In addition, they have also been used as complements or supplements with conventional medicine. This book discusses the latest research in the application of combination therapy, namely herbs and drugs, in the treatment of a range of communicable and non-communicable diseases to achieve a synergistic effect. This synergy may help in reducing the amount of drug, its toxicity, side effects, and development of resistance as well as improve its efficacy. The book also discusses the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic parameters, experimental tools to determine the impact of combination, computational approaches to identify synergy, statistical analysis of data, and clinical and regulatory issues. The book is useful for researchers in the fields of pharmacology, pharmacy and medicinal chemistry and those working in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. This book could open up new strategies to focus on multiple targets to combat complex diseases unlike the single targeted drugs that are being currently marketed by the pharmaceuticals industries.
This new volume provides detailed insight into supply chain management (SCM) and supply chain performance measurement (SCPM) in the textile industry. The book provides a comprehensive set of performance sub-criteria for the evaluation of SCPM, offering the information needed to understand, implement, and evaluate the supply chain performance of the textile industry and its cyclic processes. Using the Delphi method (a process used to arrive at a group opinion or decision by surveying a panel of experts), the authors studied several companies of diverse sizes and applied an analytical hierarchy process to establish crucial performance measurement criteria and sub-criteria. Around 80 textile industry personnel were contacted, including general managers, factory managers, managers, assistant managers, executives, and supervisors involved in various functions related to textile supply chains to discuss procurement, production, and distribution alternatives. The authors employed the multi-criteria decision-making technique, i.e. analytical hierarchy process, for executing pair-wise comparison and establishing priority weights of criteria, sub-criteria, and for estimating the contribution of supply chain cyclic processes to overall supply chain performance.
God made humans and humans made boundaries… partitioned everything… land into countries, country into states, state into regions, region into societies, and society into religions and castes. My wishes, my dreams, my desires; me and only me, and no one else, is what they fight for. India and ‘Indianness’ are meaningful to only a handful today. Seventy long years after independence, things have changed and the priorities too. Mutiny by Mangal Pandey, Inquilab of Bhagat Singh, and Vande Matram of India then, is restricted to museums, libraries, and a few parallel movies today. In a few colleges, on their graduation day, a song plays in their background, and the final year students graduate. "Papa kehtey hai bada naam karega…beta hamara aisa kaam karega… magar ye toh koi na janey ki meri manzil hai kahan…" (My father said that I'll make him proud by doing a great job. However, nobody knew where I was headed.) And these men have brought tears in the eyes of their father when they touched their father’s feet in the olive-green uniform. Soon, all of them have sacrificed their lives but no one cared, no repose. They were not the sons of a lesser father or stars of a lesser sky; they were also a part of young India but had a higher passion and devotion for their Mother Nation. They were the soldiers of 'Mother India'. They were the 'Fallen Few – The Chosen Ones.
