The way we work is overdue for change. This newly updated guide to the challenges you will face in the 21st century world of work sets out a compelling case for change in organizational cultures and working practices to boost output, cut costs, give employees more freedom over how they work and contribute to a greener economy.
In The Woman's Place is in the Boardroom the authors put the business case for more women on company boards. In the next book they explained how to achieve it. Here the authors discuss the role women directors can play in the reform of corporate governance systems following recent financial, crises in leadership, governance and the economy.
The way we work is changing in the Internet age. The new majority of the workforce, women, Generation Y, the over-50s, as well as growing numbers of men share a need for greater control and choice about where, how and when they work. This is a guide to the skills you will need and the challenges you will face in the 21st century world of work.
In the bestseller A Woman's Place is in the Boardroom the authors described the problem, gave comprehensive views of how it looked from both sides, and presented the arguments for positive change. This book is all about the 'how to'. It takes all the arguments and analysis of the first book, and focuses on how to apply it and what to do.
There are relatively few women in senior executive positions and on the boards of major companies. Based upon research and in the context of contemporary management debates the authors argue the business case for promoting women to these positions in order to create more value for shareholders. The book draws upon interviews with chairpersons and chief executives and includes case study material.
A study was conducted to review the concept of validity in the context of vocational education and training (VET) in Australia. The study included a review of literature, case studies, presentation of key findings, and recommendation of a tool to guide assessors. An eight-faceted approach to validity, based on Nitko, was developed, with each approach using different kinds of evidence (content, internal coherence, external coherence, reliability, practicality, generalizability, consequential) that may be appropriate within a competency-based approach to assessment. The study showed that the eight types of evidence were, with a single exception (consequential evidence), regarded as important by the study participants. The study finds that the approach to validity indicated by Nitko can be fruitful in improving competency-based assessments. Other findings include the following: (1) some practitioners were reluctant to allow any scrutiny of their assessment practices; (2) records storage and retrieval were sometimes not well-developed; (3) there was no uniform definition of "recognition of prior learning" or "recognition of current competency"; (4) the use of holistic assessment left questions of validity open; and (5) attitude seems to be a factor in employment and on-the-job success but was beyond the scope of the study. A revised definition of validity was proposed that sees validity as "the extent to which the interpretation and use of an assessment outcome can be supported by evidence." (Contains 30 references.)
