A riveting page-turner about a woman caught in the crosshairs of an agri-business’ corporate assassin. Against hope, Smythe Windwalker Daniels’ anonymity is compromised and a creditable threat has been made against her life. As the threats ratchet up, she feels she has no place to hide, and the danger impacts not only her life but the lives of those around her. She reluctantly accepts the FBI’s protection, hoping to testify and bring a promise of justice to her community. Smythe is a woman with vision in her eyes and fire in her soul. From a young age, Smythe was discriminated against as a mixed-race girl in a predominately white neighborhood. She leaves her current career to escape the corporate rat race, only to get entangled in a pesticide poisoning cover-up attempt by a mega corporation. While on the run, she seeks to find meaning in events that now threaten her life. Through a series of misadventures, she discovers how all events are all woven together in this tapestry called “life.” As she uses her past experience to find meaning in her present, she begins to see beauty in the midst of chaos. But the harder she tries to hide, the more difficult it is to survive.
If you are looking for terrifying tales that will have you waking up screaming from nightmares; keep looking. I’m not Stephen King, I’m just a kindly old grandfather who doesn’t dabble much in the macabre. But, if you want interesting stories which are entertaining and engaging, read on. These stories are about people interacting with other people but in these stories the people also happen to be; vampires, witches, werewolves, angels, demons and a monster I invented for this collection of stories called a slurker. What do you do if you are becoming a monster? Do you embrace it like Theo and Dustin or resist it like LaRue? What do you do if you encounter a monster? Do you attack like Miss Grant or negotiate like Father O’Shea? Maybe you would call in outside help like Scoop, Zack and Timmy did. Find out how the characters in my stories handled their monsters in these seven stories. Happy reading, Opa Don
Opa and Oma on their 45th wedding anniversary Opa and Oma met at a Missouri State Society Dance in October 1956 and married in August of the following year. We both have a very strong faith in God, and believe that faith with a lot of prayer has carried us both through out our life time. Opa and his family were able to make it safely through WW11, and afterward. Many families died even after the war, of starvation. His story tells you just how many times they were so close to death. Each member of Opas family survived without injury of any kind and we both believe that God was with them, keeping them safe.
The intent of this book is to open the eyes of the young readers, so they may make good decisions daily that are in line with God's way. Ever since the Garden of Eden there has been a battle between the angels that remained loyal to God and the angels that followed Lucifer. Lucifer is ruthless with his constant bombardment of temptations. This spiritual warfare will continue until the day Jesus returns. The prize of the war is you and me.
What do a boy who wants a sled, a semi-truck driver, a package delivery courier, an innocent man in jail, and a man helping a guilty man in jail, have in common? All are ordinary people who have an epiphany at Christmas time in this collection of short stories. “The Juniper Sled” my first story is the only non-fiction story in this book. It took place in the depression era of the 1930’s. In this story my father learned about the sacrifices parents make so that their children can have a nice Christmas. He told me this story when I was a child and it has been shared with my children and grandchildren. In “Christmas and Carol” a semi-truck driver picks up a hitchhiker on Christmas Eve and learns about empathy and forgiveness, both giving and receiving. Then in “Kosher for Christmas” a Jewish man delivers a surprise package and receives a surprise himself. The story “Jesus of Nazareth Texas” features an innocent man in jail on Christmas Eve, an unlikely setting to learn the true meaning of Christmas but he manages nonetheless. Finally, in “A Barry Christmas” hard core Barry must fill in as a store Santa Claus and he discovers that not all children think only of material things. By helping a little girl get what she wants for Christmas he receives something unexpected himself. I hope you enjoy these Christmas stories and if you do; please recommend them to your friends and family. Merry Christmas, Opa
