Another African play. This piece is being preceded by Gasping for Euphoria. The writer examines the hassles experienced in some quarters where relocation to overseas is becoming a do-or-die affair. Here, the protagonist, having been spiritually manipulated engages his household in austere economic measures, to be able to recover a huge savings for their journey to a greener world. The play does not only infer that the man's futile tactics are unnecessarily cumbersome, but also that the diverse strident measures he adopted eventually give room for the final disaster he encounters at last.
This is the writer's third drama piece, a play that splits the life history of a man into several decades. The man is at the center of life where only fate has made him triumph despite that he practices deceit and robbery. A golden opportunity visits him and he succeeds despite the depth of troubles he has fallen into. Open doors are a commonplace, but experience teaches that some sinister acts might lurk within. The central theme of the play appears to doubt the antecedents and moral character of certain political office holders in various third world countries.
Gasping For Euphoria is an African play, which highlights myriads of crises being experienced by a certain man, who has been inundated with conflicting ideologies. Having a family of only female children leaves the man in abject confusion. Desperately he searches for the means to have a male child who takes over his inheritance. His wife seeks God's help, but her mother prefers a local spiritualist who incidentally sows a seed of discord in the family. Three events cast shadows of disharmony among the townspeople. At first, the maid becomes pregnant and delivers male twins. The wife coincidentally has had a male child few weeks earlier. Secondly, a minister of the gospel due to greed loses his mantle of control over them. Finally, the protagonist wields through tragedy at the tail of the drama. He has become a drunkard, clinging only to wine bottles.
When the world of humankind turns to a jungle, only the fittest survive. Nelson Iwenofu aspires for the highest office in Via Crucis. And with his mentor, Maxwell Anikwenwa, in charge of endless scenes of deceit and murder designed to reach this goal, he fashions the armor, Paul Nkemdiche, a young and new employee-to become his defiant blood-hunting war-horse. And only invincible rivals can stop both men. Hence, a war rages on, as these two most ferocious birds of prey swoop down to shatter Paul's dream, exposing every witchcraft weapon of offensive. And their machinations unfold too fast for this poor lad to seek a path of reversal. But does there ever exist a way out of the debacle, considering Paul's religious orientation? Who dares such scorching fire of Nelson's lustful quest for power and dominion, now that Maxwell is set to fish in troubled waters? Because the latter travails to turn the goldmine to his only beloved son's favor. But whichever course the tides tread, Paul remains that most treasured sacrificial lamb. Certainly, someone will have to emerge victorious. So, who triumphs eventually? Is it the predator, the hunter or the hunted? The game is up!
