The first volume, Broken Eagles - Luftwaffe Losses over Yorkshire, was published by Leo Cooper/Pen & Sword in 2001. At least 64 German aircraft crashed in Northumberland and Durham, or off their respective coastlines, during WWII and 256 German aircrew became casualties of war. This book records in fascinating detail the losses of the German aircraft and personnel. Will appeal to aviation followers and local historians About the Author Middlesborough born author Bill Norman is an aviation historian with a particular interest in the North Eastern counties. For many years he has been researching the air war over the North of England during World War II and a number of articles written by him on that theme have appeared in the northern press and in the aviation magazines Flypast and Aviation News. This study is the first comprehensive history of the impact of the modern missionary movement on the understanding of and work toward Christian unity. It tells stories from all branches of the church: Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant in its many types (conciliar, evangelical, Pentecostal, and independent). Part 1, "Historical," highlights the contribution of modern missions to Christian unity, from William Carey and his antecedents and peers to present-day missions. Part 2, "Ten Models of Unity," takes an inductive approach to history, asking not "how should Christians cooperate?" but "how has the missionary movement helped Christians to work together at the local, national, regional, and global level?" Part 3, "Wider Ecumenism," broadens the evidence to include how the missions movement has helped not only institutional churches but also broader society to have concern for the unity of the entire human family. Included here is the story of how the Protestant missionary movement influenced the forming of the United Nations as well as the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The study also covers the movement's impact on Christian attitudes toward, and relations with, persons of other faiths. Mission and Unity is the standard reference work in the field for persons studying modern history, modern church history, missions, and ecumenics.

Believing the fundamental Christian claim that the purpose of the Bible is to present the Savior, Geisler focuses on Christ as the unity and unfolding message of the whole of Scripture. Christ is the tie between the Testaments, the content of the canon, and the unifying theme within each book of the Bible. This book is basic to both Bible study and preaching and serves as an excellent guide to the Bible's central theme. It encompasses far more than a study of types and the Old Testament prophecies. Each chapter takes seriously the affirmation of Jesus: "Everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled" (Luke 24:44). Related to Geisler's central thrust - that Christ is the clue to the whole Bible - is the clear assertion concerning the inspiration of Scripture and the deity of Christ. Chapter topics include: (1) Christ Is the Key to the Bible; (2) Christ in the Old Testament; (3) Christ in Both Testaments; (4) Christ in Every Section of the Bible; (5) Christ in Each Book of the Bible; (6) The Word of God; Personal and Propositional. Also included are a bibliography, subject index, and Scripture index.
From the earliest days of the church, Christians have struggled with questions related to unity and the handling of doctrinal differences. In this book you'll find clear guidance from Scripture about the doctrines on which it's essential for Christians to agree, and the doctrines on which believers can graciously agree to disagree. This landmark resource will equip you to take an uncompromising stand on the essentials of the faith while promoting love and unity among true believers. Book jacket.

Who has been the most influential person in your life? Was it a school teacher? An uncle? A parent? A grandmother? A minister? An employer? A coach? Whoever it was, your reason for choosing this person probably had more to do with who they 'were' and how they 'lived', than how they looked or what they owned. What you experienced was the result of this significant person's ability to model inspiring qualities and communicate those qualities to you. How did they do it? What were the ingredients that enabled them to teach so effectively? Down through the centuries, students have learned through careful observation from those more experienced. Apprentices have learned from craftsmen who took them by the hand. Amateurs emulated professionals. Disciples studied masters. As one who has been profoundly influenced by skilled leaders and who has, in turn, motivated many others, Ted Engstrom could be aptly described as a mentor's mentor. In this book, Ted Engstrom will introduce to you the idea of mentoring. As a leader, you'll learn that mentoring represents the difference between talking and doing as a student, you'll learn from the master's performance as well as his prose.

Chronicles and analyzes the phenomenon of mass emigration to the US for political reasons, which began with the Haitians, came into American consciousness in spring 1980 with the Mariel boatlift from Cuba and the subsequent mass exodus from Central America, and most recently manifested in the Haitian and Cuban exoduses of 1994. Finds that US responses are determined by foreign policy, domestic pressures, and costs. Proposes an approach for future refugee flows in the US and around the world to better meet the needs of both refugees and host citizens. Paper edition (unseen), $19.95. Submarines had a vital, if often unheralded, role in the superpower navies during the Cold War. Their crews carried out intelligence-collection operations, sought out and stood ready to destroy opposing submarines, and, from the early 1960s, threatened missile attacks on their adversary's homeland, providing in many respects the most survivable nuclear deterrent of the Cold War. For both East and West, the modern submarine originated in German U-boat designs obtained at the end of World War II. Although enjoying a similar technology base, by the 1990s the superpowers had created submarine fleets of radically different designs and capabilities. Written in collaboration with the former Soviet submarine design bureaus, Norman Polmar and K. J. Moore authoritatively demonstrate in this landmark study how differing submarine missions, antisubmarine priorities, levels of technical competence, and approaches to submarine design organizations and management caused the divergence.
Many books have successfully defended Christianity against Western rational skepticism. 'Apologetics in the New Age' represents the first serious attempt by evangelical philosophers to answer Eastern pantheism in general and the New Age movement in particular. Teaming up with David Clark, Norman Geisler, one of evangelicalism's leading apologists, probes the pantheistic worldview and its relationship to the New Age movement. Pantheism, the authors write, constitutes the soil in which the movement grows. The notion that every person participates in the divine has found fertile expression in contemporary American culture. The American consciousness of the Eastern alternative has risen rapidly in the last few decades, the authors remind us. Christian apologists have been caught unaware.... For this reason, we believe that Christian apologists must turn their attention in a new direction by developing new arguments for this New Age.

In response to readers' comments, this revised edition provides helpful clarifications, charts, and expanded notes and references. Kraus, in a theological description of Jesus Christ, offers answers to questions of Jesus' identity and the nature of the revelation-salvation which came through him. This anticipates his volume, 'God Our Savior', dealing with implications of Christ's revelation for other data of theology, such as God, humankind, the Holy Spirit, church, and eschatology. For many years the idea of vicarious suffering to atone for the sins of humanity has not been self-evident in Western culture, to say nothing of the cultures of Asia. Western theologians have presupposed Roman categories of guilt and legal penalty as the framework for their explanations. However, this has been unsatisfactory in cultures where social tradition and shame are primary moral sanctions. Observing that the biblical cultural context was more oriented to shame than to a legal concept of guilt, Kraus has reinterpreted the meaning and efficacy of the cross as the means of God's salvation. Such a reinterpretation requires that one also reevaluate the theological definition of Jesus' person. How one understands what he did for us is closely related to how one understands who he was. His identity and role mutually impact each other. Thus one must ask, Who was this one who reconciled us to God by suffering the shame of our sin? In answer, Kraus finds concepts of self-identity and self-revelation most helpful. Jesus, the self-revelation of God to us, is God-giving-himself-to-us. That self-revelation comes as a self-giving, and only in the form of a genuinely personal, historical, and human relationship. In all of this the author intends to present an authentically biblical picture of Jesus, but in the context of modern language and thought forms.
In the New Testament of the Bible in the book called the Acts of the Apostles, we see a church and a people impacted by the power of God. These people applied themselves to study the teachings of the church, to prayer and also enjoyed a caring fellowship. This church affected the world around it and great signs and miracles were normal. As Christians today we can and should live the continuation of the Acts of the Apostles and the continuation of the normal church. In the chapters of On the Way: Basic Christian Training, we explain how you become a Christian. We weave verses from the Bible and explanations into a narrative to show you how you can grow into all God intends for you to be. We help you to see how you can experience the power, meaning, and fulfillment only God can bring.
