In response to readers' comments, this revised edition provides helpful clarifications, charts, and expanded notes and references. Kraus, in a theological description of Jesus Christ, offers answers to questions of Jesus' identity and the nature of the revelation-salvation which came through him. This anticipates his volume, 'God Our Savior', dealing with implications of Christ's revelation for other data of theology, such as God, humankind, the Holy Spirit, church, and eschatology. For many years the idea of vicarious suffering to atone for the sins of humanity has not been self-evident in Western culture, to say nothing of the cultures of Asia. Western theologians have presupposed Roman categories of guilt and legal penalty as the framework for their explanations. However, this has been unsatisfactory in cultures where social tradition and shame are primary moral sanctions. Observing that the biblical cultural context was more oriented to shame than to a legal concept of guilt, Kraus has reinterpreted the meaning and efficacy of the cross as the means of God's salvation. Such a reinterpretation requires that one also reevaluate the theological definition of Jesus' person. How one understands what he did for us is closely related to how one understands who he was. His identity and role mutually impact each other. Thus one must ask, Who was this one who reconciled us to God by suffering the shame of our sin? In answer, Kraus finds concepts of self-identity and self-revelation most helpful. Jesus, the self-revelation of God to us, is God-giving-himself-to-us. That self-revelation comes as a self-giving, and only in the form of a genuinely personal, historical, and human relationship. In all of this the author intends to present an authentically biblical picture of Jesus, but in the context of modern language and thought forms.

Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. This volume makes a systematic theological statement in light of the unique revelation of God and humankind that has come to us in Jesus, the Messiah, as recorded in Scripture. It is the companion to the author's 'Jesus Christ Our Lord' (1987, 1990). There are chapters on Jesus Christ as the lens through which we receive theological insight, revelation, God, humanity, the Holy Spirit, the church, and last things, all understood through God's self-disclosure in Christ. From within the Anabaptist theological tradition, Kraus offers a biblically oriented alternative to rationalistic orthodoxy and to liberalism. He takes Scripture as the normative witness to the meaning of Christ, the authoritative source for theological reflection, and thus makes a thoroughly evangelical statement. Yet this evangel begins with salvation as newness of life in resurrection with Christ, not simply as juridical justification. The emphasis is on God as source of creative potential rather than on God as instigator of legal judgment. Christ, the Second Adam, the truest image of God, is both the climax of creation and the means through which humanity can attain that image and respond to God in personal relationship. Kraus views the Holy Spirit as the enlivening presence of the risen Christ, the church as the continuing saving mission of Christ, and eschatology as the victory of Christ over the powers of evil and death.

Religious warfare has been a recurrent feature of European history. In this intelligent and readable study, the distinguished Crusade historian Norman Housley describes and analyses the principal expressions of holy war in the period from the Hussite wars to the first generation of the Reformation. The context was one of both challenge and expansion. The Ottoman Turks posed an unprecedented external threat to the 'Christian republic', while doctrinal dissent, constant warfare between states, and rebellion eroded it from within. Professor Housley shows how in these circumstances the propensity to sanctify warfare took radically different forms. At times warfare between national communities was shaped by convictions of 'sacred patriotism', either in defending God-given native land or in the pursuit of messianic programmes abroad. Insurrectionary activity, especially when driven by apocalyptic expectations, was a second important type of religious war. In the 1420s and early 1430s the Hussites waged war successfully in defence of what they believed to be 'God's Law'. And some frontier communities depicted their struggle against non-believers as religious war by reference to crusading ideas and habits of thought. Professor Housley pinpoints what these conflicts had in common in the ways the combatants perceived their own role, their demonization of their opponents, and the ongoing critique of religious war in all its forms. This is a major contribution to both Crusade history and the study of the Wars of Religion of the early modern period. Professor Housley explores the interaction between Crusade and religious war in the broader sense, and argues that the religious violence of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries was organic, in the sense that it sprang from deeply rooted proclivities within European society.

The author has added a brief explanation of each show and then listed all the characters, who played the roles and for the most part, the year or years the actor or actress played that role. Also included are most of the people who created the shows, the producers, directors, and the writers of the shows. These books are a great source of trivia information and for most of the older folk will bring back some very fond memories. I know a lot of times we think back and say, "Who was the guy that played such and such a role?" Enjoy!

He offers new insights on the role of emotions in family violence and recommends ways of helping people escape from recurring patterns of violence. And in criticizing current conceptions of emotionally disturbed people, he reveals the nature of their inner lives and the ways they perceive and relate to others. In sum, this book presents new insights on human relationships and human experience. It is now available in paperback for the first time, with a new introduction by the author. Norman K. Denzin is professor of sociology, cinema studies, and interpretive theory at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He was awarded the George Herbert Mead Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction. The airframe industry is usually recognized as being different from most manufacturing industries. These differences, which are characterized by the number of units produced and the frequency of design changes, have been evident for many years. This uniqueness and the corresponding implications for cost estimation became particularly evident during World War II. The aircraft industry generally has been considered unique in that it differs from other manufacturing in the quantity of units manufactured and with the frequency with which changes are made during the course of manufacturing operations. In mass-production industries, manufacturing thousands or hundreds of thousands of identical units, methods and cost of production tend to remain fairly constant after production has been stabilized, whereas in the aircraft industry, method improvements are constantly being made and cost is a variable depending on the number of airplanes being manufactured (Berghell, 1944). These differences, coupled with political considerations, place unusual demands on cost modelers. This has been particularly true in recent years where large cost overruns have generated Congressional demands for better cost estimates. Traditionally, cost estimators in the airframe industry have used one or more of the following estimating techniques: 1. industrial engineering time standards, 2. parametric cost estimating models, 3. learning curves. All of the methods have been used with mixed results in specific situations. The general emphasis of all three approaches is cost estimation for planning purposes prior to beginning production, although some of the techniques may be used during the production phase of a program.
