God Loves Abused Women Too shows the true spiritual meaning of how God loves women through an abusive cycle, and how they can get out when they are trapped. There are many audiences within the book such as pastors, missionaries, ministers, psych student scholars and the general public that need to address the issues women have involving abuse. There is an impeccable taste for penmanship within the book that far exceeds its time and the author has produced a fine literary work. These audiences all have a chance to get deeper understanding by looking at the many perspectives on abuse and the journey to healing and wholeness. The audience is captivated not only by the imagery presented but the outcome of the lives of women who are touched by this awesome God. There is something.

The Novel, A Return to Goshen, recounts events in the life of a Jewish family, the Harts, in Charleston during the Civil War. Miriam, a wealthy Jewess from Philidelphia, marries Jacob, a Jew from Charleston. Upon moving to her husband's home, she is confronted with the "peculiar institution" of slavery. Although she tries to conform to Southern society she cannot shed her instinctive abhorrence of slavery. After Miriam interfers in the beating of a small slave boy, Jacob defends his wife's honor in a duel. He enters the Civil War as a field surgeon and is wounded at Gettysburg and found on the battlefield by his cousin, Daniel, an officer in the Union Army. The story revolves around the historical events in Charleston ; the firing on Fort Sumter in 1861, the deprivation of Charleston's populace during the war, the bombardment of Charleston in 1863, and the evacuation in 1865. Historical figures are woven into the plot, either by anecdotal reference or by appearance. The title refers to the slavery of Jews in Goshen and the irony of Jewish slave-owners celebrating their ancestors release from Egyptian slavery every Passover.

There is a dearth of literature on environmental communication within the non-western world. The few existing ones are scattered and not easily available.Thus, there is a dire need to document research and literature in the field. The opportunity arose at the 2009 International Conference on Communication and Environment held in Penang, Malaysia. The international conference with the theme “Transformation for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, organised by the School of Communication, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), attracted scholars, practitioners and activists from around the world to listen and deliberate on various aspects of communication and environment. The post-conference review resulted in the selection of 24 papers to be compiled into this edited volume. The escalating degradation of environment locally and globally was the main concern that prompted discussions on how sustainability can be advocated. The development process in many countries, economic activities and political decisions on issues such as deforestation for timber logging, rapid urbanisation, pertinently points out that environmental degradation and any communication on environmental change has to be grounded and located within the wider context of social, politics and economics of the society. Communication and environmental communication for that matter have also to be understood within these wider contexts. Many would agree that a constant and consistent flow of information communicated through different channels to different stakeholders at the right time and destinations can help raise awareness and consciousness of environmental problems, protection and preservation. This vital information can enable the public and stakeholders to make informed choices, and take actions whenever possible. A lack of communication and information will inordinately exacerbate the situation of environmental degradation. This book thus highlights how the environment is being treated in the media, communicated to the society and impacted nations. The chapters are grouped into the following sections: Theoretical and conceptual issues; Media content and the environment; Politics, communication and the environment; Corporate social and environmental responsibility; and Citizen participation, human rights and the environment. The editors acknowledge the excellent contributions of all the authors and are indebted to the members of the review panel, the external reviewer, USM Publications Committee and staff of Universiti Sains Malaysia Press for their help in ensuring the quality of this volume. For younger people, it fills in gaps in our local history that had national and international dimensions. This is the story of the Dallas Chapter United Nations Association, long overdue. Norma and Bill Matthews, both of whom are past presidents of DUNA, have done a masterful job of probing the past, ferreting out nuggets of history tucked into boxes and stashed away in family attics, backroom nooks, and office storerooms. For much of the time since its founding in 1953, DUNA has had no permanent home or office, and its records have been at the mercy of whoever was its leader, always with the possibility that succeeding generations of its founders would not recognize the merits of those sealed boxes and would destroy them. Using endless newspaper files, mostly from the Dallas Morning News and some from the late Dallas Times Herald and Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Matthews writing team has been able to follow the founding, development, and leadership of DUNA, vastly enriched by personal stories of individuals who kept the flame alive in good times and bad. Norma and Bill Matthews teamed their professional degrees in education, communication, music, and theology to serve as volunteer activists for human rights and peace endeavors. Married 63 years, and retiring as teacher and minister, they committed themselves to research and preserve the history of advocacy for support of sustainable goals of individual and universal dignity and freedom.
