Norm Salter wrote this based on all the good and bad situations he has seen from his experiences. He gleaned knowledge from his contacts over the years while contracting and coaching. Much of the book is based on actual events that touched his life. He compiled and tied it all together in this novel, which he hopes people can use as a resource to learn or it may be something they relate to. Norman Salter was born during the Great Depression and grew up in Livingston, Illinois. He was a diver in the U. S. Navy and had duty on a destroyer during the Korean War. Married in 1956 and has 3 children, Shrisse, Bill and Sallie Anne. Self employed as a Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor for over 40 years. Has coached high school football and girls basketball. He enjoys fishing, sports and more fishing. Norm resides with his wife of 52 years in San Diego County. In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer asks a basic human question: How do we overcome tyranny? His answer goes to the heart of a revolutionary way of thinking about the very end of human existence and the nature of created being. His answer, declared performatively over the course of a symbolic pilgrimage, urges the view that humanity has an intrinsic need of grace in order to be itself. In portraying this outlook, Chaucer contributes to what has been called the "palaeo-Christian" understanding of creaturely freedom. Paradoxically, genuine freedom grows out of the dependency of all things upon God. In imaginatively inhabiting this view of reality, Chaucer aligns himself with that other great poet-theologian of the Middle Ages, Dante. Both are true Christian humanists. They recognize in art a fragile opportunity: not to reduce reality to a set of dogmatic propositions but to participate in an ever-deepening mystery. Chaucer effectively calls all would-be members of the pilgrim fellowship that is the church to behave as artists, interpretively responding to God in the finitude of their existence together.

This book is about those relatives that immigrated from Norway, Denmark and Germany, their history, culture and the difficulties they encountered living in their respective countries. It ranged from economic recessions, depressions, unemployment and lack of opportunity. Some experienced the ravages of World War II. They told horrific circumstances of parents and how it was seen through the eyes of young children. In all cases immigration seemed like a solution to the problems with a hope for a new and better life in Canada. In the many years that have elapsed, economic conditions have improved vastly and people are doing very well in the above mentioned countries.
