The concept of a computer operating on the quantum level is unquestionably one of the most fascinating new breakthroughs at the leading edge of the computer industry and even of the scientific community as a whole. It has a really alluring sound to it, and it gives off the impression that good things are about to happen. Before we start going into the theories and principles of quantum computing, not to mention its mystery and the prospective uses of this technology, there are a few obvious and basic issues that need to be answered. These questions need to be posed. Why even consider the potential of quantum computing in the first place? There does not seem to be any hint of an impending change in the trajectory of this trend, which means that the development of conventional computers is still making substantial advance. In addition to this, the creation of quantum computers seems to be beset by a great deal of uncertainty and will almost likely result in enormous expenditures. This is true in each and every respect. In spite of this, there are at least four very good reasons to look into quantum computing in as much detail as is physically possible. The studys of quantum computing has a number of challenging obstacles. A issue that is not only exceedingly fundamental but also highly organic. In point of fact, the current level of our understanding indicates that the fundamental property of the physical world that we occupy is that of quantum mechanics. Each and every computer is a tangible piece of equipment, and each and every computation that is carried out is a physical operation. The investigation of the potentials, laws, and restrictions of quantum physics is thus a fundamental job, as well as our obligation, in order to carry out information processing and transmission. Even though this is something that is only rarely brought up in a clear manner, all conventional computers and models of computers, which are built on traditional physics; as a consequence, they are not entirely applicable. This is despite the fact that this is something that is only rarely brought up in a clear manner.

This book describes a detailed multi-scale approach integrating nano- (active site), meso- (porous catalyst architecture) and macroscale (reactor) efforts, to address the challenges of producing a better epoxidation catalyst. It contains an in-depth study of the design and synthesis of gold nanoparticles and their application as a catalyst for direct gas phase propylene epoxidation. “Direct” means using only hydrogen and oxygen in one step, which is key for sustainable manufacturing, as opposed to commercialised, more complex production routes requiring multiple steps, or integration with another chemical plant. The insights gained can be used for rational design for stable and selective catalysts for other reactions. It also details the step-by-step process to build an epoxidation reactor system with a focus on safety aspects, which can be used as a guidebook for undergraduate and graduate students in chemical engineering. Beyond heterogeneous catalysis, the new, easily accomplished methodology for synthesising atomically precise nanoparticles is shown to be relevant to electrocatalysis and to healthcare applications, such as anti-microbial surfaces. This book will be of interest to researchers, engineers and experts in the related areas of chemical engineering, chemistry, material science and electrochemistry.

Gendering the Massification Generation examines why young people from the same families and communities in India experience different decision-making processes regarding higher education access because of their gender. In India and other contexts where higher education is massifying, and gender parity of enrolment has been reached at undergraduate level, there are still many questions to be asked about gender and access to higher education. Based on an exploratory study of gendered higher education access and choice within the state of Haryana, India, the authors explore gender inequalities of higher education access and choice in the Indian context and connect this with the broader international phenomenon of widening participation. Through an in-depth analysis of the ‘massification generation’, where young people from relatively disadvantaged backgrounds are accessing higher education, often for the first time in their families and communities, readers are encouraged to apply a lens of social disadvantage and gender, and to recognise the norms and transgressions of femininity and masculinity in relation to higher education access and choice. Advances in Nanomedicine for the Delivery of Therapeutic Nucleic Acids addresses several issues related to safe and effective delivery of nucleic acids (NAs) using nanoparticles. A further emphasis would be laid on the mechanism of delivery of NAs, the barriers encountered and the strategies adapted to combat them. An exhaustive account of the advantages as well shortcomings of all the delivery vectors being employed in delivery of various NAs will be provided. On final note the regulatory aspects of nanoparticles mediated NA would be discussed, with focus on their clinical relevance. The design and development of nucleic acid-based therapeutics for the treatment of diseases arising from genetic abnormalities has made significant progress over the past few years. NAs have been widely explored for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases or to block cell proliferation and thereby caused diseases. Advances in synthetic oligonucleotide chemistry resulted in synthesis of NAs that are relatively stable in in vivo environments. However, cellular targeting and intracellular delivery of NAs still remains a challenge. Further development of NA-based therapeutics depends on the progress of safe and effective carriers for systemic administration. Nanomedicine has facilitated availability of vectors with diminished cytotoxicity and enhanced efficacy which are rapidly emerging as systems of choice. These vectors protect NAs from enzymatic degradation by forming condensed complexes along with targeted tissue and cellular delivery. During the past few years, a myriad reports have appeared reporting delivery of NAs mediated by nanoparticles. This book will provide an overview of nanoparticles being employed in the in vitro and in vivo delivery of therapeutically relevant NAs like DNA, siRNA, LNA, PNA, etc. - Provides a complete overview of the applicatiosn of nanomedicine in the delivery of nucleic acids, from characterization of nanoparticles, to in vitro and in vivo studies - Discusses delivery issues of less well explored nucleic acids, like PNAs, Ribozymes, DNAzymes, etc. - Summarizes the current state of research in nucleic acid delivery and underscores the future of nanomedicine in this field
