Ryne Taylor was a sexy bad-ass Alpha set on establishing a new pack. Melody Greene was a journalism student researching his work as a photographer. But could Mel really be trusted or had she stumbled upon his secret? And if she knew, could Ryne save himself and the pack he'd left behind without enacting a deadly ancient law known as The Keeping?
After surviving the leadership challenge, being Alpha should be easy, right? But Kane's illusions are shattered as the demands on him escalate. His half-brother has gone rogue, an old flame is becoming clingy, the pack's water supply is contaminated and now...the Council of Elders are proposing a political mating! What's an Alpha to do?
The Lenape tribe, also known as the Delaware Nation, lived for centuries on the land that English colonists later called New Jersey. But once America gained its independence, they were forced to move further west: to Indiana, then Missouri, and finally to the territory that became Oklahoma. These reluctant migrants were not able to carry much from their ancestral homeland, but they managed to preserve the stories that had been passed down for generations. On the Turtle’s Back is the first collection of Lenape folklore, originally compiled by anthropologist M. R. Harrington over a century ago but never published until now. In it, the Delaware share their cherished tales about the world’s creation, epic heroes, and ordinary human foibles. It features stories told to Harrington by two Lenape couples, Julius and Minnie Fouts and Charles and Susan Elkhair, who sought to officially record their legends before their language and cultural traditions died out. More recent interviews with Lenape elders are also included, as their reflections on hearing these stories as children speak to the status of the tribe and its culture today. Together, they welcome you into their rich and wondrous imaginative world.
Fiction has become increasingly concerned with the political and imaginative significance of finance, speculation and the money markets - from Ian Fleming's Goldfinger to Jonathan Coe's What a Carve Up and Martin Amis' Money. This book argues that recent British fiction demystifies the 'weightless' economy of contemporary money and critiques the popular sense of money as being everywhere but nowhere. The monograph provides a comprehensive survey of a large body of fictional texts that have striven to represent and understand the formative significance of finance capital on contemporary culture. In these novels, the implications of finance capitalism for political identity, for class politics, for the sovereignty of the nation state and a new global order are all explored, dramatised and critiqued. Authors covered include Margaret Drabble, Ian McEwan, Jonathan Coe, Alan Hollinghurst, Martin Amis and Malcolm Bradbury.

The Lintotts have been designing jelly roll quilt patterns since these popular pre-cut fabric bundles were launched back in 2007 and the quilts in this collection are their very favourites chosen from their previous 13 quilt books. Jelly rolls are the ultimate pre-cut fabric bundle helping you to fast track your patchwork and quilting projects. These rolls of 21/2in wide strips of fabric all from one fabric line are the perfect tool to make sure your colours and prints coordinate. All of the patterns in this collection only require one jelly roll - sometimes with some additional yardage for the background and borders- making them perfect for those jelly rolls sitting on your shelves that are waiting to be used. And, if you don't have a jelly roll, you can follow the patterns by cutting your own 21/2in strips from your stash to get started. There are a wide range of jelly roll patterns to choose from including classic quilt designs like nine patch, log cabin and bargello, through to more contemporary quilt designs featuring chains and octagons. Pam and Nicky decided they wanted a variety of designs suitable for different skill levels so that the book would be for everyone no matter what your style is and how much experience you have in patchwork and quilting. Pam and Nicky are renowned for their easy-to-follow quilt patterns that always give great results and work up quickly, and this collection features the authors' favourites from all their books so you can enjoy them in one complete volume.
The Idea of Music in Victorian Fiction seeks to address fundamental questions about the function, meaning and understanding of music in nineteenth-century culture and society, as mediated through works of fiction. The eleven essays here, written by musicologists and literary scholars, range over a wide selection of works by both canonical writers such as Austen, Benson, Carlyle, Collins, Gaskell, Gissing, Eliot, Hardy, du Maurier and Wilde, and less-well-known figures such as Gertrude Hudson and Elizabeth Sara Sheppard. Each essay explores different strategies for interpreting the idea of music in the Victorian novel. Some focus on the degree to which scenes involving music illuminate what music meant to the writer and contemporary performers and listeners, and signify musical tastes of the time and the reception of particular composers. Other essays in the volume examine aspects of gender, race, sexuality and class that are illuminated by the deployment of music by the novelist. Together with its companion volume, The Figure of Music in Nineteenth-Century British Poetry edited by Phyllis Weliver (Ashgate, 2005), this collection suggests a new network of methodologies for the continuing cultural and social investigation of nineteenth-century music as reflected in that period's literary output.
The world of compost and how it relates to healthy soil is a fascinating, complex story. Compost helps to create and maintain healthy soil – the foundation of growing organically. It is also cost-saving, easy and fun, and a fantastic way to learn and connect with nature. Most importantly, composting is really beneficial for the environment as it massively reduces the amount of noxious methane gas generated from burying food waste in landfill. In How to Make and Use Compost, composting expert Nicky Scott reveals why making compost is so important for healthy soil and the environment, how it works and how to make your own compost. He provides clear guidance on the most appropriate system for your site, whether you're composting in a garden or a kitchen, and explains how different composting systems work, including cold composting, wormeries, bokashi and hot boxes. This practical book features an A-Z guide to what you can and cannot compost, composting techniques, common problems and their solutions – from Activators to fertilise the soil with microbial food sources, to Z for Zoo poo if you're lucky enough to live near a wildlife sanctuary! It also details how to compost food waste on a large scale for hotels, restaurants, cafés and other establishments, and shows you how to plan a school or community compost scheme. An extensive list of resources, including websites, organisations, books and where to buy equipment, is also included. Beautifully illustrated with photographs throughout, this handy guide is ideal for gardeners as well as those who want to become more sustainable.
An examination of the popular view of ancient Egypt as an exotic, esoteric, and mystical culture that questions if that view is entirely accurate. The Greek historian Hecataeus of Abdera declared during the 4th century BCE that the Egyptian civilization was unsurpassed in the arts and in good governance, surpassing even that of the Greeks. During the Renaissance, several ecclesiastical nobles, including the Borgia Pope Alexander VI claimed their descent from the Egyptian god Osiris. In the 1920s, the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings prompted one of the first true media frenzies in history. For thousands of years, the Pharaonic culture has been a source of almost endless fascination and obsession. But to what extent is the popular view of ancient Egypt at all accurate? In Egyptomaniacs: How We Became Obsessed With Ancient Egypt, Egyptologist Dr. Nicky Nielsen examines the popular view of Egypt as an exotic, esoteric, mystical culture obsessed with death and overflowing with mummies and pyramids. The book traces our obsession with ancient Egypt throughout history and methodically investigates, explains and strips away some of the most popular misconceptions about the Pharaohs and their civilization. Praise for Egyptomaniacs “I have always been attracted to and fascinated by Ancient Egypt. In this superb book, Nicky Nielsen explains why we are so caught up in what happened in Ancient Egypt.” —Books Monthly (UK)

Edward ‘Ned’ Low’s career in piracy began with a single gunshot. While working on a logging ship in the Bay of Honduras the quick-tempered Ned was provoked by the ship’s captain. He responded by grabbing a musket and inciting a mutiny. Then the London-born sailor and a dozen of his crewmates held a council, stitched a black flag and voted to make war against the whole world preying on ships from any nation, flying any flag. Low’s name became synonymous with brutality and torture during the 1720s as he cut a swathe of destruction from the shores of Nova Scotia to the Azores, the coast of Africa and throughout the Caribbean. Ned Low’s life was one of failed redemption: a thief from childhood who briefly rose in the world after moving to America, only to fall again lower and harder than before. He was feared even by his own crew, and during his life on the wrong side of the law he became infamous for his extreme violence, fatalistic behaviour, and became perhaps one of the best examples of why pirates were classed in Admiralty Law as hostis humani generis: the common enemies of all mankind.

Household work is an essential part of many people's lives, yet all too often it is rendered invisible. More Than It Seems aims not only to make this vitally important work visible, but also to reconsider it as a source of learning. Drawing on a large study conducted in Canada, the authors consider diverse forms of household work, including carework. They highlight the experiences of people at the margins - including immigrants, Aboriginal women, people with disabilities, nannies, and people who provide and receive care - and analyze those experiences through the prism of lifelong learning theory. The result is a pioneering work that challenges our assumptions about both household work and lifelong learning.
Between 1600 and 1800 around 4,000 Catholic women left England for a life of exile in the convents of France, Flanders, Portugal and America. These closed communities offered religious contemplation and safety, but also provided an environment of concentrated female intellectualism. The nuns’ writings from this time form a unique resource.
