This book mainly explored the driving forces and evolvement of Myanmar’s China policy since 1988 by adopting a neo-classical realist apporach, an emerging theoretical paradigm aiming at analyzing state’s foreign behaviour by connecting systemic and unit variables which refers to external environments and domestic restraints respectively. It is the first book that seeks to give a theoretical explanation of Myanmar’s diplomacy, thereby bridging the gap from basic research to the deep one with theories. It also introduced the concept of strategic preference and argued that the competing strategic preference that the Burmese leaders have, namely “integration” and “isolation”, determines Myanmar’s responses to China in the Post-Cold War era, which not only demonstrates the neo-classical realism as an useful instrument of looking into state’s foreign policy and deepens the understanding on Myanmar-China relations. The main content of this book is divided into seven parts, in which the first chapter introduces the background, the present study on Myanmar’s China policy and China’s Myanmar policy, the analytical framework, and the arrangement of the content. Chapter 2 focuses on the roots and changes of Myanmar’s competing strategic preference as well as its influences on Myanmar’s foreign policy. The following four chapters examine the international pressures and benefits imposed by systemic imperatives, and Burmese leaders’ specific strategic preference since 1988, and investigate Myanmar’s policy towards China in different periods. Finally, it provides a comprehensive conclusion that outlines and reviews the origins and evolution of Myanmar’s China policy, and predicts its future directions. This book is suitable for the graduates and experts who are interested in international relations, the Asian studies and neo-classical realism in particular, and Myanmar politics and foreign relations, as well as China’s relation with neighboring countries.

This book details how artificial intelligence and other informatic methods can be applied to the field of tribology. Using problems often found within tribological condition monitoring, behaviour prediction, system optimization and mechanism analysis, the book covers methods used such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Including case studies throughout, the book offers an accessible introduction to tribological research, beginning with background on the theory behind tribo-informatics, and updates in the latest technology. It describes how to establish a tribo-informatics database, methods through which to express tribo-systems such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and Random Forest (RF), and its applications. It can be used in state monitoring, behaviour prediction and system optimization. Through case studies, practical examples of how tribo-informatics can be implemented are shown throughout various industries. This book will be of interest to students and researchers in the field of tribology, friction, wear and artificial intelligence.
The 36 Stratagens are a collection of the military tactics and strategies employed in ancient China. Many of the terms coined for the stratagems have evolved into popular proverbs. More often than not, reverse psychology and divergent thinking are tactics used to take the enemy by surprise. In our attempt to incorporate such tactical moves into fund investment, we discover they make the key rationales for fund investment so much easier to comprehend and relate to. This book uses each of the 36 Stratagems to guide investors on how to identify and pick a trustworthy fund company as well as a suitable fund product, how to earn higher returns and avoid unnecessary losses, as well as how to avoid all sorts of common mistakes. —from the Forword by Steve Lee Investor education is not merely about how many lessons can be taught; but how much investors can learn from each lesson. Since the late 1970s, China has initiated landmark reforms in education resulting in great strides in international rankings.. Unlike many recent books on Chinese educational reform, which examine macroscopic policies, this book examines the universalization of pre-school education, school selection in elementary education, attractiveness of vocational education, the operational mode of university charters, the development of open universities, the credit bank system in building the learning society, and other aspects of education, and only analyzes one specific problem in each of these contexts for the purpose of comparing China’s educational reforms to their overseas counterparts through microscopic study.Insights on Education Reform in China is not intended to provide a complete picture of China’s educational reform. Rather, it addresses the types of complicated circumstances under which China has made achievements in educational reform, and the conflicts arising in the context of that reform.Topics covered include: Education Reform, Equality, Standardization, Governance, Learning Society
She was considered a woman who wanted to climb into her brother-in-law's bed because of a glass of milk. In order to reassure her parents, she had to hand in a fake marriage certificate, but ... Why did this man want her to really fulfill her duties as a husband and wife?
I was forced to work overtime, but I was so unlucky that I had to buy an oversized Band-Aid for the Devil's female boss that I was unexpectedly transferred to the hot sales department the next day. From then on, I had to work with the noble and beautiful vice president of Icemountain and the cunning regional director, nicknamed "Sagittarius," to see how the clerks would march around the smoky mass of the Tengduo Group.
As the first book of a three-part series, this book is offered as a tribute to pioneers in vision, such as Béla Julesz, David Marr, King-Sun Fu, Ulf Grenander, and David Mumford. The authors hope to provide foundation and, perhaps more importantly, further inspiration for continued research in vision. This book covers David Marr's paradigm and various underlying statistical models for vision. The mathematical framework herein integrates three regimes of models (low-, mid-, and high-entropy regimes) and provides foundation for research in visual coding, recognition, and cognition. Concepts are first explained for understanding and then supported by findings in psychology and neuroscience, after which they are established by statistical models and associated learning and inference algorithms. A reader will gain a unified, cross-disciplinary view of research in vision and will accrue knowledge spanning from psychology to neuroscience to statistics.

This book offers a political economy analysis of the development and degradation of freedom of the press in Taiwan since 1949, exploring how state-business elites and foreign hegemons interacted to shape the evolution of Taiwan’s media. It examines why freedoms increased alongside democratization in the 1990s but deteriorated after the second peaceful turnover of power in 2008 and why significant improvements accompanied Taiwan’s close economic connections with the US during the Cold War, only to become eroded as the country developed deeper economic ties with China in the 21st century. Presenting both a domestic and international perspective, this study of the controversial case of Taiwan ultimately argues in favor of three factors. First, state power is not the only threat to press freedom, as corporate organizations and market forces may also play a role in curtailing it. Second, cross-national economic connections do not always improve human and civil rights but may cause damage when they involve more powerful authoritarian countries. Third, just as norms diffuse from liberal contexts to repressive states, repressive norms are also likely to diffuse from powerful authoritarian countries to more liberal but politically and economically weaker ones. Providing a new viewpoint on China’s media control overseas, The Political Economy of Press Freedom will be useful for students and scholars of Chinese Studies and Taiwan Studies as well as comparative politics, international relations and Media Studies.
