Author Nan Ma extends the horizon of China studies by rewriting the cultural history of modern China from a bodily movement-based perspective through the lens of dance modernism. The book examines the careers and choreographies of four Chinese modern dance pioneers-Yu Rongling, Wu Xiaobang, Dai Ailian, and Guo Mingda-and their connections to canonical Western counterparts, including Isadora Duncan, Mary Wigman, Rudolf von Laban, and Alwin Nikolais. Tracing these Chinese pioneers' varied experiences in Paris, Tokyo, Trinidad, London, New York, and China's metropolises and borderlands, the book shows how their contributions adapted and reimagined the legacies of early Euro-American modern dance. This brief examines current research on improving Vehicular Networks (VANETs), examining spectrum scarcity due to the dramatic growth of mobile data traffic and the limited bandwidth of dedicated vehicular communication bands and the use of opportunistic spectrum bands to mitigate congestion. It reviews existing literature on the use of opportunistic spectrum bands for VANETs, including licensed and unlicensed spectrum bands and a variety of related technologies, such as cognitive radio, WiFi and device-to-device communications. Focused on analyzing spectrum characteristics, designing efficient spectrum exploitation schemes, and evaluating the date delivery performance when utilizing different opportunistic spectrum bands, the results presented in this brief provide valuable insights on improving the design and deployment of future VANETs.

Breaking every prescription of ideal femininity, American actresses of the mid-nineteenth century appeared in public alongside men, financially supported nuclear and extended families, challenged domestic common law, and traveled the globe in the transnational theater market. While these women expanded professional, artistic, and geographic frontiers, they expanded domestic frontiers as well: publicly, actresses used the traditional rhetoric of domesticity to mask their very nontraditional personal lives, instigating historically significant domestic innovations to circumvent the gender constraints of the mid-nineteenth century, reinventing themselves and their families in the process. Nan Mullenneaux focuses on the personal and professional lives of more than sixty women who, despite their diverse backgrounds, each made complex conscious and unconscious compromises to create profit and power. Presenting a comprehensive examination of China’s medical care system, this book tackles issues of policymaking, organization, management and financing in the context of the provision of affordable care in China. Making use of extensive field investigations, interviews and a thorough analysis of documents, this book examines the re-structuring of the medical care system, spanning more than three and half decades from 1979 to the present day. Assessing the difficulties of regulatory control in the health care sector, it also explores theoretical alternatives, including post-Weberian constructs of uncertainty and control, as well as franchise and asymmetric information in market transactions. Ultimately, it argues that patient medical care has become less and less affordable amid shrinking government subsidies, breakdowns of public insurances and increases in user charges, especially between the mid-1990s and mid-2000s. This book presents the modeling and transmission theory of RF OAM communications. The book features the UCA-based RF point-to-point OAM communication system, the UCA-based RF point-to-multipoint OAM wireless backhaul network, the HCCL structure for long-distance OAM transmissions, and the UCA-based joint OAM RadCom scheme. For the UCA-based RF point-to-point OAM communication system, a 2-D ESPRIT-based distance and AoA estimation method is first introduced, followed by an OAM reception scheme including the hybrid mechanical and electronic beam steering with the estimated AoA and the amplitude detection with the estimated distance. The proposed RF OAM communication scheme is extended to the RF OAM-MIMO system equipped with UCCAs. For the UCA-based RF point-to-multipoint OAM wireless backhaul network, an OAM-based multi-user distance and AoA estimation method is introduced, followed by a multi-user OAM preprocessing scheme. At last, the proposed methods are extended to the downlink multi-user OAM-MIMO wireless backhaul system equipped with UCCAs. Moreover, a novel HCCL structure is introduced to realize long-distance OAM transmission. For the UCA-based joint OAM RadCom scheme, an OAM-based 3-D super-resolution position estimation and rotation velocity detection method is introduced, and then the PCRB of the OAM-based estimates and the transmission rate of the integrated system are derived and analyzed. To achieve the best performance trade-off, the transmitted integrated OAM beams is optimized by means of an exhaustive search method. Finally, this book discusses future research directions to inspire further investigation in the field of RF OAM communications from different perspectives.

As the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is a Leninist party-army, it is commonly assumed that the relationship between the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the PLA is symbiotic and institutional boundaries based on a clear functional division of labor are absent between the two. This symbiosis suggests that the primary role of the PLA is in China’s domestic politics; it is to participate in intra-CCP leadership power struggle and in defending the CCP regime against popular rebellions from within Chinese society. By analyzing major changes in the functions of the PLA political commissar system, the extent of the PLA involvement in the power struggle of the CCP leadership, and the circulation of elites across civil-military institutional boundaries, this book offers a new theoretical explanation of civil-military relations in China. This book provides a comprehensive overview of wireless technologies for industrial network systems. The authors first describe the concept of industrial network systems and their application to industrial automation. They then go on to cover the role of sensing and control in industrial network systems, and the challenge of sensing and control in the industrial wireless environment. Then, the existing techniques for resource efficiency information transmission are introduced and studied. Afterward, the authors introduce sensing and control-oriented transmission for industrial network systems, which take advantage of spatial diversity gain to overcome the interference and fading, which in turn improves the transmission reliability without expending extra spectrum resources and enlarging the transmission delay. Subsequently, edge assisted efficient transmission schemes are introduced, which integrate the capacities of communication, computing, and control to relieve the contradiction of resource limitation and massive data. Finally, the authors discuss open research issues and future works about information transmission in industrial network systems.
Through acoustic analysis of Mandarin Chinese intonation, the author finds that the intonation baseline moves up when intonation is shifted from assertive to interrogative; therefore, two baselines and two intonation layers must be reckoned with. Sentence intonation affects the tonal values and the tonal shapes of intrinsic lexical tones, though not beyond recognition. Tonal changes prove to be closely related to sentence intonation, which is superimposed simultaneously onto the utterance as a whole. The author's findings support the position of the movability of the intonation baseline and rectify some widely spread traditional claims concerning Mandarin Chinese prosody.
