This Is as Good as It Gets is the sixth book that I have written for Xlibris. It introduces some new main characters to the readerYa Ya, Carolyn, Terry, Mindy, Peter, Mark, and their classmates at school in suburban Philadelphia in the 1960s. It tells the story of how my brothers and I found out our mother had MS and how we dealt with it during our school years and also later in life. This book is an interactive one and also teaches how to put together a science fair for an elementary school. This book also teaches some important family values both in the 1960s and today. I hope all my readers enjoy this book as much as I did writing it. N. K. Beckley

It tells the story of a ninth-grade girl Pam, who is 80 percent deaf in both ears, and her best friend, Jodi, who also acts as her interpreter, and how they introduce their classmates and school to American Sign Language, or ASL, and its culture. Pam and Jodi’s Journey also teaches you, the reader, about the history of American Sign Language.
This book has been written for many of my friends and family especially Renee, Gwen, Bobbie, Susan, Toni, Jane Jean, Aunt Anna, Ruth Dixon, Aunt Manette, Paul, Fred, and especially my parents, Fred and Elizabeth. A large thank-you goes out to all my friends in Rose Valley, Pennsylvania, for without your help this book would have never been written. A special thank-you goes out to all my students because you were a large part of this book. Some of the things in this book were actual experiences I had in my classroom, both as a student and as a teacher. The names of the characters in this book have been changed to protect the real people either living or dead. There are two haunted housesone in Rose Valley and one in Wallingfordbut as for William, he is purely fiction. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did writing it. I hope my readers have had the time to read my other books: Peggy, The Three-Some: Book 2, The Writers Corner: Book 3, The Golden Nugget: Book 4, Emily (book 5), This Is As Good As It Gets (book 6), The 1940 Old Diary (book 7), and Pockets (book 8). This book is pure fiction and takes place around the Bryn Mawr Police Department, where Peter and Matthew are earning service points for school, working with the Detectives Andreas and Marcus solve the suicide of their science teacher, Mr. Frank Fitzgerald. I hope you have enjoyed reading Peggy, The Three-Some (Book 2), The Writer’s Corner (Book 3), The Golden Nugget (Book 4), Emily (Book 5), This Is as Good as It Gets (Book 6), The 1940 Diary (Book 7), Pockets (Book 8), Pam and Jodi’s Journey (Book 9), The Journal (Book 10), The Reunion (Book 11), Christina’s Secret (Book 12), and now The Problem (Book 13). This book has been written for my friends and family, especially Angela, Bobbie, Aunt Edwina, Gwen, Jean, Jane, Kate, Peggy, Renee, Susan, Father Don, Father Andy, Sister Mary De Chantel, Mrs. Mitchell, and my parents, Fred and Elizabeth. And, finally, for my classmates from NPHS Fred, Lynne, and Robert. Thank you for all your love and support. Many of my friends have asked me where I get my ideas. Some of them come from my imaginations and watching TV, and some of them have come from my experiences growing up in Rose Valley, and later in Detroit, Michigan. Then the rest of them have come from my teaching experiences over a period of thirty years. I hope you all enjoy reading them as much as I did writing them.
Peggy is the story of a very bright Fourth Grader who lives in Suburban Philadelphia. She is always getting into trouble with her teachers and classmates as she likes to daydream. Her teachers and friends do not know what to do with her because when she is asked for and answer to questions she always gets it right. You as the reader are asked to solve her problem? Stay tuned to see what happens to her in Book Two, The Three-Some.
The Golden Nugget is the fourth book that Mrs. Beckley has written. It is an interactive book and introduces the reader to the history of the Reed Gold Mine in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1799. It was the first goldmine in the United States of America. I hope that this part of history sparks a discussion both in your classrooms and in your families, maybe at the dinner table. The names of the people are fictional, but the information about the Reed Gold Mine, Italy, and South Korea are correct. Look for the last book in the series called Emily to be out sometime soon. The rest of the books should be out soon. I hope you have enjoyed the books as much as I have writing and researching them.
The Reunion is the eleventh book that Mrs. Beckley has written for Xlibris. This book introduces the reader to all the previous characters from her ten books. Barry, Grammy, Cheryl, Pam, Jodi, Sister Bridget, and Father David plan the 70th Anniversary Celebration Weekend to be held in May 2019. Some of the Middle School Students from St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary also help the adults in the planning of this 70th Anniversary Celebration Weekend. It is a weekend that will be remembered by everyone who attended the school both past and present. I hope you all have enjoyed Peggy, The Three-Some Book 2, The Writer’s Corner Book 3, The Golden Nugget Book 4, Emily Book 5, This Is As Good As It Gets Book 6, The 1940 Diary Book 7, Pockets Book 8, Pam and Jodi’s Journey Book 9, The Journal Book 10 and The Reunion Book 11. This book has been written for my friends and family especially Angela, Bobbie, Aunt Edwina, Gwen, Jane, Jean, Kate, Peggy, Renee, Susan, Father Andy, Father Don, Sister Mary DeChantel, my parents Fred and Elizabeth, and all my classmates from NPHS the class of 1966. Special thanks goes to Miss Jean A. Houck, Fred, Lynne and Robert. You gave me the idea for the 70th Anniversary Celebration Weekend. It was fashioned after our 50th Class Reunion at NPHS for the Class of 1966. If any of you are wondering if I fashioned any of the characters after me, the answer is yes. There is a part of me in all the characters. A lot of the experiences in this book happened to my family and me, and in my various classrooms. This is an interactive book. I hope all of you learned something from it and enjoyed it as well.
The Writer's Corner is the third book Mrs. Beckley has written. This book introduces the reader to a new set of characters: Beth, Jerry, Karen, their parents, their siblings, and their teachers. It takes place in the same school forty-five years later, in 2011 2012. It is an interactive book that introduces the reader, as well as the new classmates, how to write articles for a school newspaper, The Wiz, on the topics A Christmas Carol and the Titanic, the district swim and diving meet, the ghost William, and the first gold rush in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1799, and some of the history of Korea. This book also brings back all the characters from the first and second book for an alumni concert and the reopening of B'J'S. The Golden Nugget is the fourth book in the series and follows Beth, Jerry, Karen, William, and their families in some new adventures.
The Journal is the tenth book Mrs. Beckley has written for Xlibris. It is an interactive book. This book introduces the readers to Sister Mary Edwina and her class. She has given an assignment to them on their Most Memorable Christmas Vacation Ever. This book shows the reader how each student writes their assignment and what happens to them ten years later. This book has been written for my friends and family, especially Angela, Aunt Edwina, Bobbie, Gwen, Jane, Jean, Kate, Paul, Peggy, Susan, Toni, Sister Mary DeChantel, Father Don, Fred, and my parents, Elizabeth and Fred. If some of you are wondering if I fashioned any of the characters after me, the answer is yes. Nancy was fashioned after me, and the nuns were fashioned after the nuns I taught with and under throughout my teaching career. Sister Mary Edwina was fashioned after a nun my daughters had in school and whom I taught under. Her name was Sister Mary DeChantel. I learned a great deal from her, and every time I see a butterfly or roses, I think of her. There were even roses and butterflies at her funeral recently. A lot of the experiences in this book happened to my family and me and are still very vivid in my memory. I thought you might enjoy them.
Christina’ Secret is the twelfth book that Mrs. Beckley has written for Xlibris. This book introduces the reader to some new characters, and to some old ones from her previous books. Christina has a reading comprehension problem, but her teachers Sister Mary Gabrielle, Sister Mary Ellen, and her classmates are very supportive even though she wants to keep it a secret. There one assignment on the book, The Doll in the Garden: A Ghost Story By Mary Downing Hahn, really helps her with her reading comprehension problem, as Sister Mary Ellen teaches her a trick that helped her in math class so many years ago. This was one thing that my dad taught me, and it has helped me immensely with memory skills. I hope it will help you too. This is an interactive book, and you can do the assignments in the book along with the characters in the book. I hope it will help you, and you will come to enjoy reading anything and everything as much as I do. I hope you have enjoyed Peggy, The Three-Some Book 2, The Writer’s Corner Book 3, The Golden Nugget Book 4, Emily Book 5, This Is As Good As It Gets Book 6, The 1940 Diary Book 7, Pockets Book 8, Pam and Jodi’s Journey Book 9, The Journal Book 10, The Reunion Book 11 and Christina’s Secret Book 12. This book has been written for my friends, and family especially Angela, Bobbie, Aunt Edwina, Gwen, Jane, Jean, Kate, Peggy, Renee, Susan, Father Andy, Father Don, Sister Mary De Chantel, my parents Fred, and Elizabeth, and finally my classmates from NPHS Fred, Lynne and Robert. Thank you all for giving me such a good idea for this book. If any of you are wondering if I fashioned any of the characters after me, the answer is yes. Christina and I had the same problem in reading comprehension until my parents helped me with it so many years ago. Andi is fashioned after my mother, because, she was a wonderful cook and baker as well as a high school English teacher. Thank you, so much mother and dad. You gave me such a wonderful start in life and, a wonderful thirst for reading. A lot of the experiences in this book happened to my family and me on our many travels or in the classroom as a student or as a teacher.
