इन्फोसिस की विस्मयजनक उन्नति का श्रेय श्री एन.एम. नारायण मूर्ति की कल्पनाशीलता और दूरदृष्टि को जाता है। उन्होंने बीस वर्षों तक कंपनी के मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी की हैसियत से अपनी प्रतिभा, लगन, परिश्रम से सींचकर इसे पुष्पित-पल्लवित किया। सन् 1981 में अपनी पत्नी श्रीमती सुधा मूर्ति से दस हजार रुपए लेकर जब उन्होंने इस कंपनी की स्थापना की थी, तब कोई स्वप्न में भी कल्पना नहीं कर सकता था कि वर्ष 1999 आते-आते ही इसकी ख्याति अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर तक पहुँच जाएगी तथा कंपनी नास्डैक (Nasdaq) में सूचीबद्ध होगी। किन विपरीत परिस्थितियों में नारायण मूर्ति ने अपनी कंपनी का विकास किया, उसका थोड़ा सा अनुमान इससे लगाया जा सकता है कि एक टेलीफोन कनेक्शन के लिए उन्हें पूरे साल प्रतीक्षा करनी पड़ी। फोन करने के लिए उन्हें एस.टी.डी. की दुकान पर जाना पड़ता था। उन दिनों कंप्यूटर आयात होते थे। इंफोसिस को अपने काम के लिए विदेश से कंप्यूटर मँगवाने में ही तीन साल लग गए। कंपनी को परेशानियों के भँवर से निकालकर सफलता के उत्कर्ष तक पहुँचाने का हौसला नारायण मूर्ति का ही था। सात लोगों के साथ उन्होंने जिस कंपनी की स्थापना की थी, आज उसमें एक लाख से अधिक कर्मचारी हैं। जो कंपनी मात्र दस हजार रुपए की पूँजी से शुरू हुई थी, उसका वार्षिक राजस्व (वित्तीय वर्ष 2009) बीस हजार करोड़ रुपए से अधिक है। क्या कुछ और कहने की आवश्यकता है? उद्यमी ही नहीं, जनसामान्य के लिए भी एक प्रेरणादायी पुस्तक।
