Multimedia Signals and Systems is primarily a technical introductory level multimedia textbook, including problems, examples, and MATLAB® codes. It will be a stepping-stone for readers who want to research in audio processing, image and video processing, and data compression. This book will also be useful to readers who are carrying out research and development in systems areas such as television engineering and storage media. Anyone who seeks to learn the core multimedia signal processing techniques and systems will need Multimedia Signals and Systems. There are many chapters that are generic in nature and provide key concepts of multimedia systems to technical as well as non-technical persons. There are also several chapters that provide a mathematical/ analytical framework for basic multimedia signal processing. The readers are expected to have some prior knowledge about discrete signals and systems, such as Fourier transform and digital filters. However, a brief review of these theories is provided. Additional material for this book, including several MATLAB® codes along with a few test data samples; e.g., audio, image and video may be downloaded from http://extras.springer.com.
The issue of nationalism and anti-nationalism has always been the subject of intense debate. To deride their own country and culture has become the hallmark of India’s intelligentsia. Why does India breed so many traitors? Is treachery a part of our DNA? An attempt has also been made to analyse reasons for our disunity, caste-ridden elections and degradation of the national institutions. Pakistan was born on anti-India plank and shedding of anti-India posture would amount to questioning the very logic of its creation. After tracing its saga of treachery, the book recommends that balkanization is the only cure for cancer-afflicted Pakistan. Advocates of cultural and cricketing ties with Pakistan are belittling the sacrifices of those battling militancy. It asserts that the demilitarisation of Siachen is a seditious proposition. The book exposes the true agenda of unscrupulous pseudo-intelligentsia that resorts to highly slanderous campaigns to spawn dissensions and tarnish the image of the country. Finally, the book exposes the Non-Functional Upgradation to be a bureaucratic scam of gargantuan proportions.
This comprehensive textbook presents a broad review of both traditional (i.e., conventional) and deep learning aspects of object detection in various adversarial real-world conditions in a clear, insightful, and highly comprehensive style. Beginning with the relation of computer vision and object detection, the text covers the various representation of objects, applications of object detection, and real-world challenges faced by the research community for object detection task. The book addresses various real-world degradations and artifacts for the object detection task and also highlights the impacts of artifacts in the object detection problems. The book covers various imaging modalities and benchmark datasets mostly adopted by the research community for solving various aspects of object detection tasks. The book also collects together solutions and perspectives proposed by the preeminent researchers in the field, addressing not only the background of visibility enhancement but also techniques proposed in the literature for visibility enhancement of scenes and detection of objects in various representative real-world challenges. Computer Vision: Object Detection in Adversarial Vision is unique for its diverse content, clear presentation, and overall completeness. It provides a clear, practical, and detailed introduction and advancement of object detection in various representative challenging real-world conditions. Topics and Features: • Offers the first truly comprehensive presentation of aspects of the object detection in degraded and nondegraded environment. • Includes in-depth discussion of various degradation and artifacts, and impact of those artifacts in the real world on solving the object detection problems. • Gives detailed visual examples of applications of object detection in the real world. • Presents a detailed description of popular imaging modalities for object detection adopted by researchers. • Presents the key characteristics of various benchmark datasets in indoor and outdoor environment for solving object detection tasks. • Surveys the complete field of visibility enhancement of degraded scenes, including conventional methods designed for enhancing the degraded scenes as well as the deep architectures. • Discusses techniques for detection of objects in real-world applications. • Contains various hands-on practical examples and a tutorial for solving object detection problems using Python. • Motivates readers to build vision-based systems for solving object detection problems in degraded and nondegraded real-world challenges. The book will be of great interest to a broad audience ranging from researchers and practitioners to graduate and postgraduate students involved in computer vision tasks with respect to object detection in degraded and nondegraded real-world vision problems.

This textbook presents an introduction to the fundamental concepts of continuous-time (CT) and discrete-time (DT) signals and systems, treating them separately in a pedagogical and self-contained manner. Emphasis is on the basic signal processing principles, with underlying concepts illustrated using practical examples from signal processing, multimedia communications, and bioinformatics. Following introductory chapters, the text is separated into two parts. Part I covers the theories, techniques, and applications of CT signals and systems and Part II discusses these topics for DT, so that the two can be taught independently or together. With over 300 illustrations, 285 worked examples and 385 homework problems, this textbook is an ideal introduction to the subject for undergraduates in electrical and computer engineering.
