To increase the bioavailability of food nutrients, biofortification efforts must focus on improving the nutrient content of food and decreasing anti-nutrients. This book covers the basics of biofortification, international efforts, challenges, opportunities, and the use of the latest omics technologies in addition to classical approaches. It covers the most studied micronutrients, vitamin biofortification, and the new topics in dietary fibers, starch quality, and phenolics. It uniquely covers the antinutrients like phytic acid, ODAP, and Glucosinolates. It also reviews food bioavailability, scientific research, and meta-analyses to assess the health-promoting efficacy of different nutrients. The book attempts to cover all bases, from decision considerations to prospects, as well as biofortification of nutrients, antinutrient reduction, and the use of latest technology to aid in the nutritional enhancement of virtually all recorded food crops.

Desperate Consumers in Complex Buying Situations

In the past 50 years, consumers’ buying situations have not become easier. Consumers remain easily overwrought by complex buying situations that involve buying complex products or services, such as laptops or insurances. In such situations, consumers find it difficult to make a decision and must spend high levels of cognitive effort on it. Prior consumer research has addressed the complexity of buying situations in several research streams such as in choice complexity or product complexity literature. However, previous researchers have not reached consensus on what constitutes the complexity of a buying situation. Furthermore, they have mostly concentrated on cognitive constructs and emotional constructs have been rather unexplored. To close these research gaps, this dissertation provides an in-depth conceptualization of complex buying situations by developing a comprehensive reference framework. Furthermore, this dissertation differs from prior research by examining in detail negative emotional responses to complexity (NERCO). A reliable and valid NERCO scale is developed that consists of two factors, emotional resignation and fear of post-purchase dissonance. An experiment investigates the influence of two input variables of the reference framework (1. the number of alternatives in the consumer’s price class and 2. the perceived expertise of the salesperson who provides a recommendation in a buying situation) on perceived choice complexity and on NERCO. This dissertation paves the way for numerous directions for future research on the complexity of buying situations by providing theoretical fundamentals in the form of a detailed conceptualization and by precisely defining the research gaps.

This book begins by analysing the various corporate governance mechanisms explored in the extant literature and determining their effectiveness in enhancing the firm value using multivariate analysis. The findings are of global relevance as the corporate governance regulations of most countries focus on independent directors as the mainstay of good governance. The empirical evidence from the first objective of this study corroborates the claim that independent directors do not strengthen the firms’ governance quality. The book is one of the few works to have analysed the possible reasons behind the ineffectiveness of the independent directors. Also, in view of the famous concept of the bundle of governance mechanisms, it might be possible that the independent directors strengthen the firms’ governance quality indirectly by strengthening other governance mechanisms. This aspect too has little precedence. This study adopts a novel moderation and mediation approach to analyse the monitoring behaviour of independent directors in relation to other governance mechanisms. The work is a must read for corporate players as well as researchers and scholars studying this discipline.

Other aspects of law, which do not much invite much attention of courts like construction of Will, jurisdiction of court, powers and duties of executors and administrators, void bequest, vesting of legacy, contingent bequest, conditional bequest etc. have also received their due share in the book. Authors have discussed novel concepts like 'Living Will' in this book.
