This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the distribution of public money and its political and societal implications. Drawing on evidence from central and eastern Europe, it offers an innovative insight into public responses to various strategies of public spending. Given that public expenditures are funded mainly from tax revenues, it also assesses public attitudes to politically motivated allocations of funds. The book seeks to identify how people evaluate the material benefits of funding in light of the fairness - or lack thereof - of the distribution process, whether popular acceptance of variations in public spending depends on the framing of the beneficiaries, and the implications of money allocation for political trust in political institutions.

One common feature of new emerging technologies is the fusion of the very small (nano) scale and the large scale engineering. The classical environment provided by single scale theories, as for instance by the classical hydrodynamics, is not anymore satisfactory. Militancy continues to be characteristic of many supporters of the Russian far right, encompassing a belligerent rhetoric, a strong perception of participants as political warriors and often the use of physical violence. How serious a threat does Russian militant right-wing extremism pose to Russia and the World, and how has the level of threat changed over time? This book addresses this question by exploring right-wing extremism in Russia, its historical context and its resurgence over the past thirty years. Outlining the legacies and forms presented by current right-wing extremism, with a particular focus on militant extremism, it employs a historical, descriptive method to analyse the threats and risks posed. The book examines the destruction of the architectural heritage in Mosul perpetrated by Islamic State between 2014 and 2017. It identifies which structures were attacked, the ideological rationale behind the destruction, and the significance of the lost monuments in the context of Mosul’s urban development and the architectural history of the Middle East. Due to the rapid increase in readily available computing power, a corre sponding increase in the complexity of problems being tackled has occurred in the field of systems as a whole. A plethora of new methods which can be used on the problems has also arisen with a constant desire to deal with more and more difficult applications. Unfortunately by increasing the ac curacy in models employed along with the use of appropriate algorithms with related features, the resultant necessary computations can often be of very high dimension. This brings with it a whole new breed of problem which has come to be known as "The Curse of Dimensionality" . The expression "Curse of Dimensionality" can be in fact traced back to Richard Bellman in the 1960's. However, it is only in the last few years that it has taken on a widespread practical significance although the term di mensionality does not have a unique precise meaning and is being used in a slightly different way in the context of algorithmic and stochastic complex ity theory or in every day engineering. In principle the dimensionality of a problem depends on three factors: on the engineering system (subject), on the concrete task to be solved and on the available resources. A system is of high dimension if it contains a lot of elements/variables and/or the rela tionship/connection between the elements/variables is complicated.
This aesthetically unique book combines ecological, morphological and anatomical, as well as phylogenetic studies on plant material in a largely unexplored dry mountain region above the timberline. It offers the first comparative analysis of hundreds of plants - annuals, perennial herbs and dwarf shrubs - in an area of 87,000 km2 at altitudes from 2600 to 6150 m above sea level in the Western Himalaya. Characteristic landscape pictures of all major vegetation types and maps show at which locations and altitudes the individual species of vascular plants are distributed, while macroscopic plant pictures and plant age are related to high-quality micro-sections and micro-photographs. The anatomical features of 345 dicotyledons were characterized using the published coding systems and those of 155 monocotyledones were characterized on the basis of a newly developed key. The number of annual rings and anatomical features of the xylem and phloem of dicots are compared and related to different ecological conditions within this extremely dry and cold environment. The ecological and anatomical characterization is used to create a phylogenetic tree based on nucleotide sequences, and indicates which features are genetically stable and which ones are modified by environmental factors. The book appeals to scientists in the fields of plant taxonomy, morphology, anatomy and ecology.

Metoda použitá pro popis kondenzace proudící páry je založena na homogenní (spontánní) kondenzaci páry, hetero-homogenní kondenzaci a rovněž na binární nukleaci vodních kapiček s reprezentativní chemickou nečistotou NaCl, která se v energetické páře nejčastěji vyskytuje. Stručně jsou popsány fyzikální a matematické modely kondenzace. Homogenní, hetero-homogenní a binární nukleační modely jsou potom použity pro výpočty proudění páry s kondenzací v 2D dýzách a 2D rozváděcích mřížích prvního stupně s vlhkostí v nízkotlaké části kondenzační turbíny pro uhelnou elektrárnu a v nízkotlaké části turbíny pro jadernou elektrárnu. Pro výpočty byl vyvinut program COCHEM Flow. Uvedeny jsou výsledky výpočtů a jejich rozbor. Popisuje se rovněž experimentální výzkum dvoufázového proudění vlhkého vzduchu s kondenzací v rozváděcí turbínové mříži. Pozornost je také věnována účinku chemických nečistot páry na turbínové lopatky v oblasti kondenzace páry v nízkotlaké části kondenzační turbíny.

Úvodní část práce předkládá diachronní i synchronní teoretický rámec, který vychází z bohaté současné i historické odborné literatury a analyzuje RP s využitím sociolingvistických pojmů, především z oblasti jazykové preskripce a standardizace. Praktická část je tvořena výzkumem, jenž byl proveden pomocí internetové stránky s 18 nahrávkami a doplňujícím dotazníkem. Tyto nahrávky byly evaluovány 20 anglickými a 20 českými respondenty. Výzkum se zabývá také sociolingvistickými kategoriemi, které pomáhají vytvářet ideový konstrukt spisovnosti.
