Michael Millgate's classic biography of the great novelist and poet Thomas Hardy was first published in 1982. Much new information about Hardy has since become available, often in volumes edited or co-edited by Millgate himself, and many established assumptions have been challenged and revolutionized by scholarly research. In this extensively revised, fully reconsidered, and considerably expanded new edition the world's leading Hardy scholar draws not only upon these new materials but upon an exceptional understanding of Hardy gained from long immersion in the study of his life and work. Many large and small aspects of Hardy's life are here freshly illuminated, including his family background, his fumbling self-education as a poet, his difficult relations with his first wife and hers with his family, his sexual infatuations, his secret collaborations with aspiring women writers, his clandestine composition of his own official biography, and the memory-invoking techniques by which he sustained his remarkable creativity into extreme old age. Thorough, authoritative, and eminently readable, Thomas Hardy: A Biography Revisited is now the standard life of Hardy for a new generation.

This book explores the question of realism in motion pictures. Specifically, it explores how understanding the role of realism in the history of title sequences in film can illuminate discussions raised by the advent of digital cinema. Ideologies of the Real in Title Sequences, Motion Graphics and Cinema fills a critical and theoretical void in the existing literature on motion graphics. Developed from careful analysis of André Bazin, Stanley Cavell, and Giles Deleuze’s approaches to cinematic realism, this analysis uses title sequences to engage the interface between narrative and non-narrative media to consider cinematic realism in depth through highly detailed close readings of the title sequences for Bullitt (1968), Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974), The Number 23 (2007), The Kingdom (2008), Blade Runner: 2049 (2017) and the James Bond films. From this critique, author Michael Betancourt develops a modal approach to cinematic realism where ontology is irrelevant to indexicality. His analysis shows the continuity between historical analogue film and contemporary digital motion pictures by developing a framework for rethinking how realism shapes interpretation.
Team Being is a book about creative collaboration—what it is, how it works and how to maximize chances of doing it well. The book is built upon years of experience working with thousands of nascent teams from education, business and government where participants were expected to generate results in formations from two to twenty-five people. The book shares complex insights on collaboration combining direct observations of creative teams in action, extensive reviews of ground-breaking research in the field and insights from leaders of professional creative teams. Team Being goes beyond other teamwork books incorporating compelling insights and perspectives from psychodynamics, neuroscience and quantum physics, all of which help to illuminate the often-hidden forces at work in collaborative environments. The more aware leaders are of these forces, the more empowered they are to lead teams by influence rather than blind authority. Learning how to work well with others is an inconvenience, not unlike what grammar is to writing. Teamwork is an essential skill for the 21st century work force, but there is currently no natural, convenient or effective place to learn it in most institutions of education.

O’Donoghue makes clear distinctions between related aspects of video production, and offers working definitions where appropriate in order to address the academic and tertiary support technical audience. Interviews with established professionals in the field illustrate the possibilities—and limitations—of video for teaching and learning. Producing Video for Teaching and Learning gives readers the power to enhance the learning capacity of their own video materials.
Worn as jewelry, in cosmetics, as gemstone water, placed under your pillow to work as you sleep, used as part of your meditation or in a massage, the gemstones promote strength and wellbeing. Crystal healing expert Michael Gienger explains how healing stones can exert their beneficial and healthy effects on the body, mind and soul. For example: rock crystal acts as antipyretic, malachite promotes detoxification, aquamarine helps to combat allergies, amber improves sleep and amethyst promotes clear thinking. Gemstone Healing is the first guide to list the full range of applications for 36 crystals and will provide all the information you need to treat yourself, your family and friends. The reader will come to understand the effects of the crystals and learn how to choose, use and look after them properly. With full color illustrations throughout and stunning photographs of each of the 36 crystals, this guide gives both the reader new to using crystals and those who have some experience of crystal healing a whole new view of the subject.
This book, the first of its kind, helps scientists and engineers of all stages and disciplines share their work in a new way—with movies. Today, much of scientific communication is embedded in papers and presentations, but these documents don’t often extend outside of a specific academic field. By adding movies as a medium of communication, scientists and engineers can better communicate with their colleagues while also increasing their reach to students, professors, peers, potential collaborators, and the public. Scientific films help translate complex technical topics into more accessible and consumable messages. By following Lauren Murphy’s filmmaking formula – planning, shooting, and editing – readers will create their very own scientific films that look professional and polished. Using tools as simple as a smartphone, readers can develop short, personal stories with no cost or experience needed. This book will guide readers through all steps of the movie making process to a finished product. Readers will evolve their creative thinking skills and use their movies to improve classroom presentations, network across student organizations, present at conferences, recruit students for their labs, secure grant money, and more. Adding a movie to your body of work can be the tool that sparks interest in audiences to learn more—driving traffic to your publications, research projects, and websites. This book will help you develop new skills to become a better communicator while spreading your ideas and research to new audiences.
This interdisciplinary volume of collected, mostly unpublished essays demonstrates how Mikhail Bakhtin's theory of dialogic meaning--and its subsequent elaborations--have influenced a wide range of critical discourses. With essays by Michael Holquist, Jerome J. McGann, John Searle, Deborah Tannen, Gary Saul Morson, Caryl Emerson, Shirley Brice Heath, Don H. Bialostosky, Paul Friedrich, Timothy Austin, John Farrell, Rachel May, and Michael Macovski, the collection explores dialogue not only as an exchange among intratextual voices, but as an extratextual interplay of historical influences, oral forms, and cultural heuristics as well. Such approaches extend the implications of dialogue beyond the boundaries of literary theory, to anthropology, philosophy, linguistics, and cultural studies. The essays address such issues as the establishment and exercise of political power, the relation between conversational and literary discourse, the historical development of the essay, and the idea of literature as social action. Taken together, the essays argue for a redefinition of literary meaning--one that is communal, interactive, and vocatively created. They demonstrate that literary meaning is not rendered by a single narrator, nor even by a solitary author--but is incrementally exchanged and constructed.

For anyone to say that no mysteries or secrets are contained within the Word of Yahweh (God), that the Torah is done away with, or that God's plan includes the destruction of the world, he is surely misinformed. So much is lost in translation and misunderstood within God's Word, even to the level of simple word definitions. The source of this problem is not returning to the foundations of Torah: understanding early church teachings, deciphering the Torah from its Hebraic roots and language, and recognizing God's language of mysteries, secrets, and parables, the very method used to reveal the New Testament to us. To learn the deeper and hidden teachings of the kingdom is to obtain access behind the veil into the Holy of Holies of the temple, the pattern of creation. Beyond the veil, the original intention of God's plan becomes clear: to restore creation with His people, who are called to be royal high priests, the temple, the garden, the New Jerusalem, the manifested sons of the kingdom, and the living Word of God. The access into the Holy of Holies is granted when the living Torah is revealed with the correct understanding of it. Through revelation - an apocalypse, the removal of the veil - does one begin to comprehend God's divine plan of restoration of His glory. Step behind the veil and see the coming glory of our magnificent Creator. About the authors: Dr. Michael Petro is the founder of Forerunner Ministries International and Forerunner Television Productions. Michael has traveled extensively through the nations, where God has used him in miracles, signs and wonders to open blind eyes, deaf ears, and heal the paralyzed. Michael has raised up sons and daughters all around the world and has spearheaded numerous congregations and made disciples worldwide. His heart is to see God's children come into a face-to-face relationship with their LORD and KING Jesus and to see the Melchizedek priesthood put into position and be used in the final GLORY. Dr. S. L. Yang, who holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, is a spiritual daughter of Michael Petro. The first time Dr. Yang heard Michael reveal the deeper teachings of the Torah was an eye-opening and life-changing moment, for a veil had been removed. As a member of Forerunner Ministries International and Forerunner Television Productions, she helps to spread the revelation of God's kingdom through writing, media, and the arts. Keywords: Revelation, Secrets, Kingdom, Mysteries, Christian, Jesus, God, Early Church, Temple Theology, Hebrew
Updated and Expanded Edition of a Landmark Text on an Urgent Topic Now updated and expanded, this landmark text reveals God's purposes for his covenant people in these times--and how this revelation is impacting the church. Unlike Ruth in the Old Testament, many of us have turned our backs on the Jewish people, the relatives of the Messiah, and we share the collective guilt for centuries of their persecution. These pages remind us that now, more than ever, we must confess, embrace, and intercede for the chosen people of God, aligning our prayers with God's plan. Once again, Israel and her people are center stage at a crucial moment in world history, and this book shows why the church must effect reconciliation and why our prayers are vital in this hour. If we will make the same covenant pledge to Israel that Ruth made to Naomi, the church will never be the same!
Life in modern day Jerusalem is not simple for an evangelist. Living in the city where prophets and Messiah and saints died and rose again is indeed a wonderful experience. Where else in the world can you meet Messiahs, Elijahs and the two witnesses of revelation? This is a story about discovering the Jewish roots of the faith of the New Testament, not by rejecting the truths in the gospel but by understanding the truth of the Torah. These events happen mainly in the year 2000 in Jerusalem but with many flashbacks to other times. In this book Jew and Gentiles are indeed seen to be one in Messiah Yeshua and the mystery of the name of Jesus is explained.
Michael J. Chan argues, on a methodological level, for the deeper integration of iconographic materials into the task of tradition history-a method that has tended to focus on textual evidence alone. Following the work of O.H. Steck, however, 'tradition' is understood in more flexible terms, to refer to inherited concepts and constellations, which can exist across multiple media. The author undertakes a tradition-historical study of the 'Wealth of Nations Tradition' - a series of texts in which the foreign nations of the earth bring their wealth to Zion (1 Kgs 10:1-10, 13, 15//2 Chr 9:1-9, 12, 14; 1 Kgs 10:23-25//2 Chr 9:22-24; Pss 68:19, 29-32; 72:10-11; 76:12; 96:7-8//1 Chr 16:28-29; Isa 18:7; 45:14; 60:4-17; 61:5-6; 66:12; Zeph 3:10; 2 Chr 32:23). The Wealth of Nations tradition is found throughout the ancient Near East. Michael J. Chan shows that in some cases, the biblical texts reflect this tradition with little to no modification while in others the tradition is recast in creative and disruptive ways"--
