Anger and hatred over past atrocities, if not resolved, often render an individual emotionally dysfunctional. Couple anger and hate with the refusal to forgive and you have a recipe for mental illness. Roger, a young nine-year old boy from the Ukraine experiences the horrors of Stalin's man-made famine of 1932-33 in which his baby sister starves to death and his dad is executed for stealing a small bag of wheat. Roger and his mother escape from the Ukraine into Poland. A few years later, the Second World War breaks out. Because of their Jewish blood, his mother, grandfather and he are placed in the Nazi slave labour camps. His mother dies in the work camp and Roger witnesses the horror of his grandfather being beaten to death by an evil guard. Roger survives the slave labour camp, but with the passage of time, his grief over his great losses turns to anger and hatred. He adamantly refuses to forgive those who have caused him pain. Will Roger find the peace that only forgiveness can bring or will the torturous trail he takes lead him to insanity? All of us can learn from Roger's life. In truth: WE MUST FORGIVE TO LIVE

Until that day dawned, like many other foster kids, he lived with the stigma that he was kept by his foster parents to generate income for them. Of late, bad had gone to worse for 13 year old Andrew. He was being sexually abused by Blanche, his new single foster mom. Blanche had been abandoned by her husband and despised men. Although she used Andrew for her own depraved needs, she treated him poorly. To add to his pain, news of this sexual relationship leaked out to his peers at school and he was now enduring verbal torment at recesses and noon hour. Andrew couldnt bear the pain any longer when the only friend whod stuck up for him at school turned against him. He felt totally alone, so unloved. Dear God, I have nothing left to live for, he sobbed one night when his foster mom left for a party. Please forgive me for what I have to do, but Im hurting so much. Andrew headed to his foster mothers shed to get the rope. With the rope coiled up under his coat, he headed to the big black poplar tree in the Kinsman Park. Twelve feet off the ground was a large branch at right angles to the trunk. Andrew quickly fashioned a hangmans noose and shinnied up the tree. Bracing himself with his legs he slipped the noose over his head and tied the other end of the rope to the branch. Grasping the branch, he let himself down. As he hung there by his fingertips, his short life passed before him.......

Rob stood by the cross at the spot where the grizzly killed his dad. “Please forgive for what I have to do, Dad,” he moaned. “God only knows how much I’m suffering. I just can’t stand this horrible pain anymore. I’ve got to end it all.” The 44 Colt felt cold and awkward in his hand. The gun barrel glistened from the drizzle. It took every ounce of strength he had to place the end of the barrel against his chest. With his eyes firmly closed, he cocked the 44 with his thumb and tried to squeeze the trigger. His forefinger froze, refusing to pull the trigger. “Damn it anyway! Why won’t my finger pull the trigger?” Rob cried out. Rob made several more attempts, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get his finger to squeeze the trigger. He quickly changed hands, but his left forefinger would not squeeze the trigger either. In disgust, Rob aimed the 44 at the base of the cross and pulled the trigger. The gun fired, blowing a hole in the base of the cross. He stood there in mental anguish. “God Almighty,” he called out, “what a loser you are. You screw up anything you try.” And then it happened. Just as he put the barrel of the gun against his chest for another try, a vision briefly flashed before his eyes. He saw Ada, his old girlfriend, on her knees, tears streaming down her cheeks. He heard her pleading, “Oh dear God, don’t let Rob kill himself!” Will Rob end his life or will Ada’s prayers be answered?

Life at times is heavy for the couple as they struggle with infidelity; financial ruin and terminal illness. They learn what it means to practise love and compassion and experience the beauty and power of forgiveness. The story ends with a horrific triple murder. The beautiful epilogue in the last pages of the book takes one into the spirit world.

This book addresses a central problem often ignored by students of twentieth-century Mexico: the breakdown of the old order during the first years of the revolutionary era. That process was more contested and gradual in Yucatan than in any other Mexican region, and this close examination of the Yucatan experience sheds light on an issue of particular relevance to students of Central America, South America’s southern cone, and other postcolonial societies: the capacity of national oligarchies to “hang on” in the face of escalating social change, the outbreak of local rebellions, and the mobilization of multiclass coalitions. Latin American historiography has generally failed to integrate the study of popular movements and rebellions with examinations of the determined efforts of elite establishments to prevent, contain, crush, and, ultimately, ideologically appropriate such rebellions. Most often, these problems are treated separately. This volume seeks to redress this imbalance by probing a set of linkages that is central to the study of Mexico’s modern past: the complex, reciprocal relationship between modes of contestation and structures and discourses of power.
