A reader's review: couldn't resist purchasing this as I read the Snippet on Amazon and felt I just had to read on, I've finished ADBEC and I have to say I am absolutely stunned by your recollection of how it all was, and all of the characters, some of your recollections were identical to mine. It is very rare for me to gasp or laugh aloud when reading, a reaction usually reserved exclusively for the late Tom Sharpe; but I did reading ADBEC! Recognised a few people - Ursula Watts - our memories concur! So AD BEC link is: http: //www.lulu.com/shop/michael-fitzalan/a-dish-best-eaten-cold-adbec-a-tale-of-revenge/paperback/product-20201102.html
One boy, one bully, one accident and one act of revenge. Stephen Inglis thought running away would help but that was not the solution, the bullies at his school teased him for sleeping with a teddy bear. Stephen was not at all sporty, at a prep school where sport was a key to popularity; he had joined a term late and he had found it hard to make friends, he missed his family. He was nine and his father had said he would be fine. That was not what Stephen felt, he felt a true outsider, a stranger without a friend. Stephen had an opportunity to get revenge on one of his tormentors. He had to decide what to do. Should he try to save his enemy, or, should he let him perish? With his demise, he could at least expect a silent, grudging respect from the others and to be left alone. Did Hollister deserve to be buried alive? One hundred and fifty boys, one hundred and forty-nine of them were happy, one of them miserable. Did his happiness justify the taking of another life? Would he be a slave or would he be free?

A boarding school in the depths of the country, no escape. A bully tormenting one child. Then, the nightmare ends when the tormentor disappears in a tunnel that caves in. Stephen has a choice, tell no one of the collapse and be free from persecution or rescue the person who had made his life a misery and return to living in fear and trepidation. What would you do? Find out what Stephen did and how he justified his actions.

The pressures of contemporary electioneering force political professionals into "campaign mode"--a state of mind that merges a visceral drive to win elections with a deep-seated habit of strategic thinking. Wise political professionals know the basic rules of electoral strategy and how to read the political terrain. Campaign Mode examines the strategic histories of five successful congressional candidates--Ohio's Ted Strickland, Georgia's Bob Barr, California's Loretta Sanchez, Tennessee's Harold Ford, Jr., and Pennsylvania's Rick Santorum. The authors--both of whom have advised major political figures--combine original interviews, survey data, historical investigation, and first-hand observation of the candidates to reveal the inner workings of electoral politics. They demonstrate that campaigns do matter and show readers how to think like political professionals.
Buoyant, irrepressible and hot-tempered, John Charles Thomas captivated audiences worldwide with his incredible voice. The son of a minister, he studied voice at the Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of Adelin Fermin, one of the few voice teachers in America capable of training Thomas in the French operatic style. By 1915, Thomas had become a leading performer on Broadway, and ten years later had embarked on a trans-Atlantic career in opera and concerts. At the height of his popularity from 1934 through 1946, he was a popular star of radio, phonographs, and the Metropolitan Opera, a favorite of both popular and classical audiences. His decision to leave opera and focus on his radio career during the Second World War cost him his reputation as a serious artist. The singer who introduced "Home on the Range" and launched many other American standards has been largely forgotten today. This thorough biography details Thomas's life and career. Beginning with his school days at the Peabody, it traces his Broadway career as the star of Step This Way and Maytime and his highly successful career as a concert, recording, and opera star. Appendices provide a discography of his recordings, a list of operatic appearances in Brussels and the United States, and the songs he performed on radio broadcasts from 1934 to 1948.
Harley-Davidson motorcycles are the grandest name in American motorcycling, and represent the freedom of the open road, a life of rebellion, and a heritage of craftsmanship for over 100 years. This is not a war story and I never anticipated it to be. It is a love story, in my opinion (I am biased) a story of love, tears, tragedy and then love again. Perhaps with an added touch of the goodness that people oftentimes find in each other. The minute you begin to write about a military man, you are going to have war. You have to read beyond what our "Jake" experienced to get to "my ending.
The 34th U.S. president to hold office, Dwight D. Eisenhower won America over with his irresistible I like Ike slogan. Bringing to the presidency his prestige as a commanding general during World War II, he worked incessantly during his two terms to ease the tensions of the cold war. Pursuing the moderate policies of Modern Republicanism, he left a legacy of a stronger and more powerful nation. From his crucial role in support of Brown v. Board of Education to the National Defense Education Act, The Eisenhower Years provides a well-balanced study of these politically charged years. Biographical entries on key figures of the Eisenhower era, such as Allen W. Dulles, Joseph R. McCarthy, and Rosa Parks, combine with speeches such as the Military Industrial Complex speech, the Open Skies proposal, the disturbance at Little Rock address, Eisenhower Doctrine, and his speech after the Soviet launch of Sputnik to give an in-depth look at the executive actions of this administration.
