Surprisingly, he finds that President Clinton's program of "comprehensive engagement," which has drawn severe criticism, may in fact create a positive human rights "spin-off." Santoro's "fair-share" theory is a unique and thoughtful effort to draw the line between what moral principles do and do not require of businesses operating in China.

Chinese society is plagued by many problems that have a direct impact on its current and future business and political environment-worker rights, product safety, Internet freedom, and the rule of law. Drawing on knowledge gained through personal interviews, documentary sources, and almost two decades of visits to China, Michael A. Santoro offers a clear-eyed view of the various internal forces—such as regionalism, corruption, and growing inequality—that will determine the direction and pace of economic, social, and political change. Of special interest is Santoro's assessment of the role of multinational corporations in fostering or undermining social and political progress. Santoro offers a fresh and innovative way of thinking about two questions that have preoccupied Western observers for decades. What will be the effect of economic reform and prosperity on political reform? How can companies operate with moral integrity and ethics in China? The second section consists of an overview and classification of anti-cancer drugs and a look at their cardiotoxicity. The third section looks at cardiac imaging in the cancer patient, including cardiac ultrasound, Doppler imaging, nuclear imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomography in the cancer patient. In section four, management of cardiac disease in the cancer patient is discussed, including cardiac rhythm disturbances and heart failure. Cardiac emergencies and interventions are described as is preoperative assessment of the cancer patient for non- cardiovascular surgery. The final section includes a range of topics such as the pericardium, cardiovascular effects of endocrine treatments, primary cardiac tumors and malignancies of the myocardium and pericardium. Cardiac monitoring during clinical trials and pulmonary concerns are also addressed, as are psychosocial, social, economic, and legal issues of the cancer patient with heart disease.

Based on actual events, The Gloves starts as a love story between a mother and her four daughters. She was the thumb, and her girls were the other fingers--a hand if you may. The year was 1910 when my grandfather immigrated from Italy and joined a Hell's Kitchen mob soon after. In 1925, he met an innocent girl from New Jersey who wrongly crossed a legendary block in midtown Manhattan and wound up outside a speakeasy. They would marry, but the Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, and the ensuing War would change their lives forever. The story of her four daughters growing up in Brooklyn unfolds with equal measures of grace and tragedy, as life grants and takes away its greatest gifts over the years. The oldest daughter would marry first. Her husband would win the Silver Star for bravery during WWII, and his brother would come within one boxing match of challenging Joe Louis for the world title. The other daughters' lives would take different paths. All had families of their own as the tides of life ebb and flow. In 1990, Hollywood would write about one such incident in an Academy Award-winning movie loosely based on fact and fiction. Time transcends over five generations as we learn about loyalty and betrayal, joy and sadness while struggling through dyslexia and autism. Read about all sorts of mayhem and murder. Plus, alcohol and drugs, gambling, bookmaking, and racketeering. The Gloves starts as a tribute to a remarkable and selfless life. That life belonged to my mother, as she was one of the four daughters. It continues, however, as an autobiography of one not so gifted.
