The EU seeks to define a role for itself in power politics while remaining firm in its rejection of power politics. In order to make power compatible with the European project, EU debate has appended a number of progressive adjectives to the word "power," adjectives like "civilian" and "normative," among others. This book asks what is power, such that it can be modified, tamed, and modulated by adjectives, yet remain "powerful"? Loriaux passes EU debate on power through the mill of phenomenological and post-phenomenological analysis, juxtaposing it against writings by Machiavelli, Agamben, Thucydides, Nietzsche, Patocka, and Levinas. The book locates power in "power/play," the theatrical, staged representation of threat that generates aesthetic effect and undecidability. Power/play endows the word "power" with perlocutionary force, which the adjectives of EU "qualified" power actually enhance rather than moderate. Loriaux argues that EU discourse on power therefore risks inviting EU "exceptionalism," or risks lapsing into an expression of EU ressentiment, rather than advancing a new, progressive understanding of "power." If European Union is to remain steadfast in its opposition to power politics, it must represent itself as "anti-power." This book will be of interest to those who work in the area of EU foreign policy, as well as to those who have a more general theoretical interest in the concept of power.

This thesis gives an overview of test bench design for inverter operated Medium Voltage (MV) drives with the focus on the active power measurement. The sources of measurement setup uncertainty are analysed and methods are shown to assess these uncertainties. Further, a possibility is shown to do quantitative uncertainty estimations which are verified with measurements through different measurement setups for MV drives operated with multilevel converters. The influence of measurement transducers, voltage dividers, power meters and data acquisition boards are considered. The digital signal processing is analysed and the possibilities to reduce its uncertainty contribution on an active power measurement is shown. An analysis is made with the conventional measurement devices in the MV-range. The transfer behaviour of the devices and the characteristics of the uncertainty are investigated. Measurements are done on typical medium voltage drives with an uncertainty analysis, which shows the essential aspects of active power measurement. The results show the significance of a measurement setup performance. The investigations on the drives are used to indicate the impact on the determination of the drive efficiency and gives a significant input for further standardisation processes. The handling of measurement uncertainties during active power measurement of drives is shown concerning the permanent topic of energy saving and its efficient use. The work proposes a way of categorising electrical drives in energy efficiency classes and to make their determination comparable. Die vorliegende Dissertation gibt einen Überblick über den Prüfstandsaufbau von umrichtergetriebenen Mittelspannungsantrieben. Die Unsicherheitsquellen werden analysiert und Methoden werden aufgezeigt um die Messunsicherheit zu bewerten. Des Weiteren werden die Machbarkeit von Unsicherheitsabschätzungen gezeigt, welche mit Messungen an typischen Mittelspannungsantrieben mit Umrichterspeisung verglichen werden. Der Einfluss von Messwandlern, Spannungsteilern, Leistungsmessern und Messkarten zur Signalerfassung wird berücksichtigt. Die digitale Signalverarbeitung wird analysiert um den Unsicherheitsbeitrag zur Wirkleistungsmessung zu reduzieren. Es werden konventionellen Messwandler und -teiler im Mittelspannungsbereich bezüglich ihres Übertragungsverhal- tens sowie Messunsicherheiten untersucht. Die Ergebnisse der Untersuchungen verdeutlichen die Signifikanz eines performanten Messaufbaus. Des Weiteren werden Auswirkun- gen auf die Bestimmung der Effizienz aufgezeigt. Die Arbeit liefert einen wesentlichen Beitrag für weitere Standardisierungsprozesse. Der Umgang mit Messunsicherheiten der Wirkleistungsmessung wird betrachtet im Hinblick auf Energieeinsparpotenziale und deren effiziente Nutzung. Using extensive data gathered from an urban public library infrastructure, this historical case study demonstrates how public sphere communication shaped the infrastructure’s development over time, producing both changes and continuities across the case’s nine periods. Two new conceptual tools—circuits and decisions cycles—form the study’s research framework, and a new explanatory theory—RLCr, or "Releaser," theory—accounts for why the infrastructure developed as it did. We live in an era in which relations are considered to be of the utmost importance in almost every field of science and society. For theology, however, this is nothing new. Having a personal relationship with God is a common Christian expression, and while this notion of relationship with God usually lacks a clear definition and its explication is often deeply flawed, this book argues nevertheless for the centrality of a theology of relationship. By reintroducing Emil Brunner as a relational theologian, based on his seminal work Truth as Encounter, it is boldly proposed that relationship must be the prime leitmotif for the whole of theology. Furthermore, the relationship analogy is investigated in light of contemporary relationship science: is it accurate to speak of a relationship with God? Berra argues that God-human interaction is indeed categorically a relationship and existentially intended to be intimate. Consequently, this relationship needs to be the theological leitmotif leading to a theology of relationship.
